I am a 2nd Generation PR. I am going to JC1 in 2013.
I must serve NS when I complete JC2 in end 2014/ early 2015.
What can you do in NS as a PR?
I heard that some very sensitive vocations in SAF (Army/ RSN/ RSAF) are not allowed for PRs due to military security clearance. Hence, which vocations can PRs eligible for?
Are vocations assigned strictly in accordance to PES only? Does citizenship matter?
Can combat-fit (PES A/ B1) PRs qualify for command schools to be officers/ sergeants?
Can PRs also be posted to SPF Police or SCDF Civil Defence?
Myths. You can get posted to any vocation, if you are worthy even as officers.
Most vocations don't even come close to handle documents, let alone document pertaining to security stuff, so it is all myths, you can get posted anywhere.
Simlar to last time, myths that fat ppl, ah puis will only get posted to less siong vocation, all fake one, PES BP recruits get posted to everywhere also, even those who never pass IPPT during BMT.
Yep u can get posted anywhere. In fact i've seen quite a number of prs who are officers, specialists.
You don't have to worry too much about vocations - since it is not within anyone's control.
The SAF posts and deploys manpower according to their needs. Ranks and appointments are according to manpower needs as well (though fitness/qualifications are a criteria, but does not mean all who fit will be officers/specialists).
For example, to qualify to be an officer an 'A' levels or Diploma is required. Most Singaporeans have these, but it won't make sense to make everyone an officer, then they will have nobody to lead. Therefore where one is posted to is largely a matter of manpower needs.
Security clearances are complex matters and cannot be explained over an online post. There are many factors to it.
There're no restrictions on PR being officers/specialists. I personally know of two officers who are PRs.
Since PRs are not citizens and always have the choice to give up to return to their country, or even joining another army, the SAF obviously have reservations posting them to sensitive units or to hold key staff appointments (such as Commander/Commanding Officers, Intelligence Officers, etc). These are unspoken, understandable and obvious.
