anyone worked under him before?
he was a high flyer in SAF?
i feel that it is a waste that he retired from SAF
he could have been a Commando general in his early fourties
any rank above Colonel is political
I think nowadays if an officer is eligible to serve as COL, he goes from LTC to COL and skips SLTC. He may then serve as COL or above and retire.
If an officer is not eligible to serve as COL, he is promoted from LTC to SLTC to retire. This was done to stop many people having COL which has a higher retirement age and carries many privileges.
People don't retire as LTC anymore. So how come this guy retired as LTC?
How high a flyer is hard to say...there're more LTC/SLTC that you would think...its not that special a rank....it doesn't mean he's a high flyer.
Anyway LTC (RET) Ho Kian Soon was reportedly relieved of duty as he was commanding the School of Commandos, during the fatal dunking incident. He had to take responsibility that men under him had been practising an unauthorised training procedure for years.... His boss - then Chief Commando Officer was also relieved of duties.
Waste or not, I think none of us here are qualified to say - we are not greater people than them to judge if they were good/bad soldiers.
