Hi all, i'm still a recruit in NS but have been through quite a bit of transferring here and there. I was from PES A but had some skin allergy (atopic dermatitis which is aggrivated by grass) and is now pending a down PES to C2L2. Currently posted as a driver but may be going back Tekong for recourse soon.
Just to ask, is a driver's life relax relax one?
Also, how do all of you adjust to army life? Many people tell me to think positive. But how to think positive? I've been to IMH before for some adjustment issues and is still currently having adjusmental problems. Most will feel depressed. So, would someone mind to share with me about your army life or how you adapt to an army life?
Why you so depressed in the first place?

Depends on the camp.
Why you so depressed in the first place?
Because he is still new to NS. Psychologically, he is still adjusting from civilian to military life.

what Dalforce1941 said was kinda right. i had adjustmental issues. went psychiatrist before. still undergoing counselling. but i find the people at my new vocation quite anti-social? and the race ratio a bit weird, not to be racist but just naming a fact.

So you are a bit racist? Cannot work with other races? Adjustment? You should forget your student's live and start to learn how to be an adult or soldier. Your vocation people anti social? Communicaton take 2 way, sometimes you need to approach them. As for changing of vocation, unless recommended by medical board, it's almost impossible. Changing of camp? Even harder. Most driver can convert to civilian license by the end of their 2 years.

What if kenna even worse one? You see u always lower your expectation so anything that turn up better it's always a bonus, like that you'll not feel so miserable or depressed.

It depends. A driver life can be stressful if your condition can't adjust to the pressure. Drivers have heavy pressure because they're vunerable to accidents and causing deaths. They experienced high strictness, yelled at everyday and lack of sleep. Under those conditions, you must drive carefully. Drivers carry alot of responsibility because they move lives and all fingers point to you if you caused accident. It can be mentally draining. These are what I heard from 2 of my friends who were driver vocation.
During my era, drivers mostly are hokkien peng, whole body tattoo, and challenge superior like nobody business. Now people are more educated and we are talking about 3G Army.
But when come field exercises, they are the most 'on' soldiers.
Many had chances to go ROC for solid driving, so in term of driving skill, they are better off.
I won't be able to understand how's young soldiers nowsday react to NS life, but regardless of appt and rank, serve dutifully, and you won't regret next time when you had grown to my age, where I could give positive advice to my son, my nephew on NS matters.

what's wrong with the ratio?

Lee Kuan Yew see also scared. Quickly send them to ang moh school to undergo anglicisation.
But when come field exercises, they are the most 'on' soldiers.
Yet they are the ones that are the most aggressive, has most fighting spirit, most bold in their actions. Dare to fight, dare to attack, dare to challenge authority.
This type of people is of not much use to Lee Kuan Yew.

Ok, to answer TS's qns. My time was easy, duty, cover, booked out.....very soon ORD.
There's a song in army I barely can remember, it ended with "What you want to be?" than my man will shout back "Cook, Clerk, Drivers". It's dame funny those time.
Imagine all my man are wearing red beret when they shouted that.
