So I will be serving NS in a couple of months and i've heard that most men book out of camp during the holidays and weekends. Would I be able to book out, but still spend the night at camp. ( I have no family in Singapore).

CMPB: We would advise _______ to approach his Unit Manpower Officer upon his enlistment on 9 Dec 2011 on his request to stay in the camp after Enlistment and also on the food arrangement as it has to approve by the Unit Officer.

Yes. You are expected to find a place to stay on your own.
NOT all NSF stay in camp, some stay out. It is only during the training, on course, or on duty, they stay in camp. Even if you are an infantry men, you book in when needed, and you are on off when not required.
I suggest you get a friend or some relative to stay over the weekend or other days. Who know, you might be posted to a unit that dont required stay in! The interesting thing is if you have any attached to Singapore, why bother wasting two years and serve NS, when there is not even a place for you to stay over the weekend. LOL!
What happpens if his unit or course school has no bunk, or even the whole camp has no bunk?
Will he be asked to stay at his previous unit bunk- what if it's BMTC?
You can always volunteer for more guard duties...
Out of curiousity, which camp has no bunks? CMPB?

SPF & SCDF stay out.
CMPB, HQ Gombak etc.. Sometimes, the camp has bunks but not the unit does not.
I stay at bedok. Last time, when I was posted to sembawang camp, I stayed out.
I stayed inside sembawang camp when I was on course for three months. After the course, I stayed out again.

I see, cause when I was at Selarang, my unit wasn't a stay in unit but they had bunks for anyone who wanted to stay in.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you emigrate to?
LRooke, I moved out of singapore when i was 6 and i've been in the United States ever since.
But if you moved out at 6 years of age you don't actually have to come back. I don't think you're actually liable.

It depends on whether he has citizenship and a state that will take him. He is free to renounce citizenship on foreign soil whenever he wants.

If he has stayed 5 years in US he can apply to become a naturalized citizen. Just take an exam, very easy.
Still doesn't change the fact that MINDEF shouldn't be asking him to serve.
What are important are not just residency rights (PR) but citizenship rights.
For the off chance that Mindef requests his new country to send him back to face charges for an offence under Singapore law.
Even if he renounces Singapore citizenship, as a nonocitizen his new country is not obliged to protect him. Does not happen but possible.
