Hi everyone, my name is Eugene, 21 this year.
Well, Im very keen to sign on as an officer, in the commando/guards unit. It has always been my dream. Im very interested in the military life since young.
I do jungle trekking, exploring the jungle, camping by the sea, where i fish for food as the sole food supply. I enjoy such life. (serious)
Now i would like to clarify a few things:
1) How much is the pay for signing on after scs as a sergeant?
2) Heard that we can actually sign on before bmt enlistment? How should i go about doing that?
3) If my communication/leadership skills are not that good, but my fitness level and discipline are excellent, and im very keen to sign on as an officer, do i have the chance to enter ocs?
Thanks.
yo ah boy think twice before u really want to sign on , btw r u the only son in your family?
Hi Eugene,
1) Specialist starting pay is here: http://www.mindef.gov.sg/arc/careers.html#careers=warrant&sub=salary-benefits
2) Yes, can sign on before enlistment. Check with Army Recruitment Centre.
3) Your forum post shows that you can communicate well. You are signing on to be a soldier, and your soldiering competency (a big component of which is fitness and discipline), attitude and values will stand you in good stead. You should have your fair chance. The Army and BMTC will assess whether you should enter OCS.
Go and talk to the recruitment centre. They will answer your questions.
To shinkansen: Yes i am the only son in my family. How high of a chance will i enlist into Army?
To Virtuaoski: Thanks for you input.
I will do my best to enter ocs, but my only concern is during the peer evaluation, im afraid that i might get backstabbed/betrayed by my platoon mates, due to jealousy and competition for ocs, which would decrease my chances.
How often do diploma holders sign on as a sergeant? Do we have better prospect? Do we get promoted faster than non diploma holders?
One more thing. Im thinking of skipping my napfa test, just to get enlist into the PTP batch. My reasoning is i want to enlist earlier to get more used to army life first, then during the BMT period i will have more advantage because im more well prepared compared to the non PTP batch.
Is this wise or foolish, if my goal is to excel in BMT?

If you sign on, then it's definitely.
As for diploma sergeant, there are quite a lot especially in the technical side. But if u are considering this as the long term job, then further is a must.
