Hey dudes. I'm not sure if this topic had been created before...
This SG guy was not called up for National Service and well, he kinda took it for granted and went on with his life in SG till when he was 30. Somehow the government discovered and realised that this little joker did not serve NS at all and has been living happily for 10 years.
My concern is - whose fault is it? Ministry of Manpower for not calling him up and took them ten years to realise it? Or him as it is kinda obvious to all that it is mandatory to enlist? And what should be the appropriate punishment?
Admin lapse of MINDEF. There is no appropriate punishment, its MINDEF's admin lapse. Trace it down to the filing clerk loh.
So was he callled up for NS?
this fking guy heng sia
he was tracked down by the government and was told that his degree (gotten from local U) is useless in SG. He lost his job and has to work at some NTUC which pays him 1000+ and he has got a family to support. No he was too old to serve.
wow! can someone post the article link?
no article.. a distant relative of mine.
what nonsense is this?just because he never served NS,his degree from a local U,is worthless?it's a DEGREE for goodness sake!If he's a local with a local degree but never served NS is considered no use, then what abt those FT who came here with no NS but with foreign degrees?this post is a bit suspicious
Taiwan got this case before.
Not adhering to the enlistment act is an offence. True enough a degree certifies that you possess a set of skills and abilities. You simply can't take it away. But once you have a black mark in the govt books.. Your certificate might just be deemed useless.
The taiwanese guy got jailed for not reporting to the authourities too.
I think the rule is all Singaporean males of age 16 and above must register for Natiional Service when they receive the notification, and even if they don't receive any notification.
Its like your PUB, Telco, credit card bills, even if you never receive them, you have the obligation to pay them. Not receiving them is no excuse.
