GE 2011: Why NS? Cut Down NS to win votes? Sure win GE seat?

What's been said in parliament about no need for girls to be drafted is simply unsubstantiated rubbish. Why not? We are talking about manpower usage and equality of gender. Get straight; Israeli girls get to serve for 2 yrs NS in mostly admin vocations after 3 wks BMT.
The following proposal should be implemented asap:-
NS for males:-
1 yr duration: 2 months BMT, remaining 10 months service.
NSF no need for command school: Leave roles of commanders to regulars who sign on as a career. Pay them well and there will be many who are willing to sign on.
Alternatively, NSF who want to volunteer for command school may do so but must sign a voluntary extension of an extra half-year service i.e. that makes his NSF duration become a total of 1 & a 1/2 years.
NS for females:-
6 months duration: 1 month BMT, remaining 5 months service.
Reservist ICT apply to males: 10 cycles (1wk duration each)
Reservist ICT apply to females: 5 cycles (1 wk duration each)
These proposals are ideal for the Singapore context & policay makers, PLEASE implement these proposals ASAP!

i would be happy about that personally.
But thinking from their perspective it would mean loss of cheap labours, and most likely they would tell u to fark off..

I wanna feedback more flexibility in PES grading.
A lot of my friend cannot downgrade even though their specialist recommend.

What type of specialist? I spend S$1000+ just to get down PES.

It shouldn't be just about cutting short NS, but properly compensating males who have already served (especially those who have done more than 2 years).

It wont changed the policy (mindef), it dead. 2 years of ns, salary worst than a maid. Treat like a dog. What you expect? Recently my friend called me asking me to see svc (ns training)...I told him, all is propogand lah, to make parents feel at ease only. Inside army, big fish eat small fish. when it comes to sovereignty, if you can't defend it, it's not yours.. simple as that...
hell, even now, some NSFs can't even defend their own backpacks.. they need maids for that..
you still want to cut down NS further?
or maybe we should get the Israelis back to help us train our recruits.. put some steel into their spines to replace the jelly i see in this topic

Youngsters are a bit too soft nowadays....spoilt by PAP White Horses policies. Double standards.... some parents also contributed to such a social problem as well....
We are smaller than Israel; just a dote on the world map, that's why we need compulsory NS.
However, after the 2 yrs full-time, govt should not hinder men from getting on with a good career with all those stupid NSmen dept heads just keep recalling men to cover the regular gaps. This is the main problem that's why so many unemployment now all gana taken by "foreign talents". I was a ex-regular, after leaving the forces, they keep recalling convieniently for manpower gaps. As a NS trainer I saw how many of us can't get perm jobs because of such stupid selfish recalls by the NSmen units.
Women should go NS also, since they keep voicing out to UN for gender equality blah blah blah....
