National Service Liability
Under the Enlistment Act, all male Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents, unless exempted, are liable to register for National Service (NS). Following the completion of full-time NS, they will be required to serve up to 40 days of Operationally Ready National Service (ORNS) per year for the duration of their ORNS training cycle till the age of 50 years (for officers) or 40 years (for other ranks).
Main applicants who are granted PR status under the Professionals/Technical Personnel and Skilled Workers (PTS) Scheme or the Investor Scheme are exempted from NS. Male children who are granted PR status under their parents' sponsorship are liable for NS under the Enlistment Act. They are required to register for NS upon reaching 16½ years old and will be scheduled for enlistment at the earliest opportunity upon reaching 18 years old. If they are pursuing full-time studies, deferment from full-time NS may be granted only if they meet the deferment conditions stipulated by the Ministry of Defence which can be found at www.ns.sg. All NS-liable males aged 13 years old and above, are required to obtain an Exit Permit (EP) when travelling overseas for 3 months or more.
NS-liable PRs are expected to serve NS. Renouncing or losing one's PR status without serving or completing full-time NS would have an adverse impact on any immediate or future applications to work or study in Singapore, or for Singapore citizenship or PR status.
Males who are granted Singapore PR, and who were previously Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents, are liable to be called up for NS regardless of the type of PR status they have been granted.

Any more Speaker's Corner nonsense, and I'm coming down hard.
I'm not directing that to the TS; you know who I'm talking to.
fudgester, you SAF regular?
if your cousin's ANY parent is a singapore citizen, yes he need to.
If already got NSF liao, what makes you think wun have reservist, just that PR/NC's actual run on NSmen reservist duties is almost good as non-existant.

No; I am anti-idiocy.
If you have nothing good to contribute to the discussion, please get the hell out of here.
The TS is just asking a simple question about the status of PRs doing National Service, and yet you see it fit to try to derail it into a Speaker's Corner nonsense-fest.
Any more of your nonsense in here, and I'll wipe out your posts myself. Capice?

okay.
You always like to act like some sort of big fuck, so I thought you were SAF regular.
Okay, now that we've dealt with trolls, let's get back to what the TS was asking.
A second-generation PR would be liable for NS, and that would include reservist. PRs can and do go for reservist; I remember a PR friend of mine from Malaysia who has already done five ICT cycles.
I'm not sure exactly if a PR who gives up his Permanent Residency status would still be liable for NS; perhaps someone who has a friend who has been in such a situation can shed more light on the issue.

My cousin's both parent are PR = they family PR.
My cousin went to singapore for study when he was 14.
He heard many stories about military life so that he make himself a big decision.
In my opinion maybe he is right, he did not born in singapore, he hate military life and he has no interest in PR or Citizenship.why he still need go to NSF.

if any of the parent dun hold the red passport it doesn't make sense for your cousin to be liable for NS right? since the parents are stilling holding on to their current citizenship, automatically your cousin should have the same citizenship automatically.

thanks for your suggestion.
My cousin told me that after he finish his studing , he will work and live in Australia or China , so there is pointless for he get PR because he wont work and live in singapore.
Anyway, 2 years is a long time for him.

What I suggest is that you ask your cousin to send a query to CMPB or something.
As kengkia has pointed out, your cousin would be liable for NS only if at least one of his parents is a full citizen. The same goes for my PR friend; as far as I know he was liable only because his mom is a full citizen.
Of course, we could be wrong, and CMPB/ICA may have changed their rules, so it's best to just ask the people in charge directly.
so in short TS, just ask your cousin's parent dun one leg here, one leg at original country, safer.
1 PR need go NSF ?
All second generation PRs (dependants of main PR applicant) are liable for National Service.
2 PR have reservice ?
Like any other NSmen, PRs are also liable for reservists and ICTs.
3 if he can abandon his PR, does he need go NSF anymore ?
He is no longer liable for National Service. However, there are adverse effects should he decide to apply for a work permit/employment pass, student pass, or even reinstatement of his PR, in the future.
4 any suggestion for PR avoid to go NSF?
As long as you are still a PR, you will have to serve your NS.

It has nothing to do with how your cousin feel about military cause nobody is interested in his opinon.
think before making decision.......because once decision made will not be able to return to Singapore.
There are many folks who made the wrong decision on SAF and later in life have to answer to the Law when they choose to return to Singapore.

If your wife and gf can go off with another person while you are on reservist than perharps there isn;t a relationship in the first place....So don't flame unnecessary remarks.
