Pregancy can be a choice, while NS is force upon male-person just because they are born as a male. It is only 9 mths long, not 2.5 mths. Not all girls can successfully get boyfriend, get married and have children. What about those that can't have children or chooses not to have it?
How about setting a rule that beyond a certain age, for female-persons, if they do not have 2 children (i.e. 9x2=~18mths), they'd then have to serve NS. Kills two birth with oen stone, with the government promoting people to have more children. Btw I'm not being serious here. I don't think pregnancy is a valid argument against gender equality at all.
PMS, it can be accomodated. Isreal conscripts females too with no serious drama, some of them can even make better soilders than some of the guys too.

Topics my be repeated, but it still remain a vary valid point for discussion. This serious gender inequality still persist and that's a fact worth bringing up again and again.

Those female editors dominating sunday times like to push for female rights, female interests, criticise males, every sunday like to feature endless female corporate leaders, but when it comes to this topic of female conscription, they will diam diam.
I think there is some truth that our state media has a female bias.
Check out the editors in your state print media and observe their agenda and propaganda line.

Other interesting articles on male-gender inequality persisting (and hidden) in today's society (which was what my thread was all about, before it was renamed and moved from speakers corner). All we talk about is female inequality (which I oppose), however it is not fair that male-inequality and silly-gender-expectations imposed on guys to be allowed to carry on.

Yeh, not just conscription, but there are many other laws (and unspoken societal codes) that are unfair to male-persons. See excellent relevant articles posted above that I hope may serve as a point of discussion.

For me, its more about gender equality.
IMO, if it is to be fair, then if male-persons have to serve 2 years, then female-born people have to serve 2 years too. Similarly if its lowered to a 1/2 year service term, then it should be applied equally regardless of gender - and people who had to serve more than that should be compensated for their youth already sacrificed (i.e. via various suggestions posted above).

Everyone living in Singapore should take part in NS.
If u say gals do economic defense no need NS, boys also do economic defense( working force) also need to do NS.
NS should be reduced too, Taiwan north korea gt so long 2 years?
They faced military threats from korea. Taiwan from China.
From wad I know taiwan no reservist one. Y singapore need.

I don't think girls should serve NS, at least not in the military context. We guys can do that job pretty well. Nursing and other civil emergency-relevant roles... maybe.
But it's not like a die-die issue lah, Serve NS, and keep away from the feminists, and protect the REAL ladies who respect you for what you sacrifice and do yah? Lol.
