I just completed my high school (A lv equivalent i guess) in Canada and will be goin bac to sg for NS thru VEES.
However I'm only 16.5yrs old (turning 17 at end of the year) + I have flat foot
Am I at a disadvantage in the selection of going to SISPEC or OCS during BMT? Thx guys...
How severe is ur flatfoot? Have u gone for medical checkup? Very severe form of flatfeet might make u unfit for combatant roles. PES C.
Minor flatfeet does not affect ur SISPEC and OCS selection during BMT.
When u coming back?
end of this month w8ting for medical chkup & hopefully get enlisted by christmas/chinese new year...
normally when i run (eg. 2.4km) i would feel that im out of breath after a while rather than my feet aching btw...

Out of breath is normal, btw what's your timing? Aching is also normal, becos your did not used your muscles for a long time.

Mild flatfeet even if u declare wont get downgraded to non combat fit.
Severe one(totally flat with no arch) must declare can down pes.
currently best is 15mins sharp @ the treadmill
@stardust
my feet is totally flat with no arch so still possible to get PES A/B?
just keep training, for a average helathy individual, you would have no problems whatsoever doing at leat 11 mins for your 2.4 run.

You may get pes B. Nowadays, SAF can provide you with free insoles. You need to ask for it in the medical centre after speaking to the MO. ok you need to complain to the MO, then the MO will refer you to the specialist, then the specialist will then refer you to the foot guy who will make you custom insoles... then you will finally get your custom-made insoles. if you custom-make insole does not work, you are still having problem then you might be considered for downgrading....
Need to get good running shoes and advices from sgrunners.com. Running too much will premature worn out your ankles and knees.
I got flat foot, but I was not downgraded for it. But you can try. Usually, they will only downgrade you when it is very bad. But by that time, the joints would have been already damaged.
Dont trained at all, without good shoes, else you will end up with arthritis like me at the age of 19 -21. It is only by then I get downgraded but I think it is too late then.
