If you're going for the technical services, like technicians and what know then you would need the relevant qualifications. These vocations would most probably be at the Specialist (Sergeant) level or the newly devised Military Expert Rank Structure.
The pay scale and what not can be found on the Mindef/SAF recruitment websites. Should be quite easy to check out.
But if you have any queries, just call the Army Recruitment centre of the recruitment centres of any of the services for queries. I'm sure they would be more than happy to talk to you. They might even invite you down to CMPB to see the brochures and talk to them or what not.
The Payscale will be according to your rank structure and qualification, i.e degree holders will get a higher pay from diploma holders while holding the same rank and position.
For Officer and Specialist ranks, you have to start at the bottom and work your way up and your pay will increase with rank.
For the Military Expert Ranks, i believe they can let you enter even in the middle of higher up depending on your qualification and experience. You'll have to check the Specifics with the recruitment centre of the websites cos i'm still unfamiliar with the exact position you'd enter with a diploma, since this is still a relatively new concept.
if you're a diploma holder, when you sign on you will get the Military Expert 1 (ME1) rank, equivalent to a first sergeant.
if you'r a degree holder, you will get the ME4 rank, which is equivalent to a second lieutenant rank.
say if i studied IT in poly, can i sign on in combat like guards?

I don't see why not?

What about officer in guards? or officer in RSAF?
I do have interest in these vocations, shall I decide after my BMT?
As long as you hold a diploma / GCE A Level, you stand a chance to be selected for officership training after BMT.
Go look through the various vocations of the Army and Air Force and see which one interests you most. For the Air Force, there are so many officer vocations to choose from such as Pilot, GBAD, UAV, etc. So consider them.
Don't decide after BMT. Decide now and apply before going through BMT. This saves any possible waiting time after BMT for application process, medical, etc. Especially Pilot.

thanks for your reply, i have interest in rsaf's awo (c3).
any advice on that? i heard its new.
so applying before bmt is better?
whats awo? air what officer??
Air Warfare Officer
It's not new, it's still the previously-called C3. Just that AWO is branched out to C3 and GBAD (formerly known as Air Defence Artillery)
Another point is that an AWO needs to have knowledge of both C3 and GBAD. That will be covered during training. Of course, an AWO will still specialise in either one. Both now put on the same AWO vocation badge, unlike the past.
It's better to apply for anything before BMT as it gives you time to complete all the application requirements. It might even give you more mental preparation about signing on. But whether or not you're offered the contract depends on if you make it to OCS. If you don't, then HQ will post you elsewhere. If you get to go OCS, you will be offered to sign on the dotted line and get posted to OCS (Air Wing).
Imagine not getting anything done till after BMT when you realised you're going to OCS. Then you gotta rush to sign the contract without enough thoughts about it. And while waiting for the admin part to be cleared, who knows, you might even have to wait in Army OCS before they transfer you to Air Wing.

If u sign on, sure go to OCS, becos it's your career.

so you agree that sign on before going bmt is better?

Unlike what tarutaru said, there is no guarantee that you will go to OCS if you already applied. Note that you can only sign on the dotted line if you make it to OCS. But there's definitely a higher chance. So apply first, then go BMT, and that will increase your chance. Once confirmed to be in OCS, then you sign. That's the path.
If you already applied, you can actually clear the necessary tests/medical etc, before you enlist for BMT. So after BMT, what's left is your signature.
The usual waiting time from BMT to OCS is about 2 weeks. That's not enough time for you to complete your application and sign on etc. I'm talking about if you want to sign on as an air force officer. So you might have to wait in army OCS till the air force side is confirmed.
oh they merged the C3 and Ada badge into 1.. So how will they decide whether you go into C3 or Ada because its very very different..
You choose what to sign on.

yes that said, but if u dun successfully get ya posting(different matter) , they can also post you other thing also,by then you already signed on the dotted line too late already.

thanks for your reply, but awo doesn't need compass test right?
but say if i've applied, and i din make it for ocs. so everything turns invalid?

My impression is that C3 has some kind of aptitude test too. Compass is for flying related only. GBAD shouldn't have such test.
If no OCS = nothing.
All the best? When enlisting?
