Hi everyone. Currently I'm a poly graduate waiting for my BMT to commerce in July 29. A few days back I went to CMPB and apply to signed on as an Air Force Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Pilot (UAV Pilot). I've some doubts n I'd appreciate if you guys can clear it for me ^^
1. Is it very hard to get to become an UAV Pilot officer? (cos I heard from my friends that for pilot, if halfway thru they see you cmi, you are out.)
2. Is the OCS training for UAV pilot be under e army or the air force? (heard that the army's OCS is freaking hard D; )
3. How long is the full training to become an actual UAV officer? And how is the training like?
4. How often do I need to travel abroad? Is the training for UAV pilot in SG or other countries?
5. Pros and Cons?
I know that's a lot of questions =) But it's a major decisions. Since it's up to my volition, I should really understand the process first ;D Would really appreciate your effort in answering my doubts (^. ^`) Cheers~
Hi dude , i am from this camp , but i am not a UAV pilot. I have seen a lot of batches of UAV pilots trainees and everytime there is always a lot of trainee who dropout. Meaning they fail the course or something. So i guess it wasn't that easy afterall. But don't worry , this recent batch i saw , quite a lot of ppl went thru it and was commisioned as 2LT. Good luck =)

Yea I suppose. Hope that I can make it through =) Not very good with theory though ;(

Glad to hear that! :) Do you know what happens if one was to fail the course? ;D
i thik they will get posted out to other units , change of vocation , i guess. not very sure though.
Thanks guys. i just got my compass test date. Any idea what is it about? And also as for e aeromedical check up, how is it different from the medical checkup for the Army? Thank you, cheers^^

Well it really depends on the individual. The reason you have to go for a compass test is to determine your psycho-motor and multi-tasking ability. There are a handful who drop out due to being unable to handle stress in a dynamic environment while in control of the UAV flight and task prioritisation, for example, handling emergencies. It's not hard. So it really depends on your aptitude.

Air Force.
3. How long is the full training to become an actual UAV officer? And how is the training like?
The training will be the same as other vocations of other services, which is 9 months. The only vocation that doesn't follow the typical 9-month officership training is Pilot.
The UAV trainees will initially join pilot trainees for groundschool to learn the basic principles of flight. Thereafter they will specialise in the technical and practical aspects of UAV handling. Not forgetting the theory part too.
4. How often do I need to travel abroad? Is the training for UAV pilot in SG or other countries?
Unless there is an exercise which involves UAV operations and typically lasts for a few weeks, you will find yourself in Singapore.
Training is local.
