i'm turning 18 on july 14. My parents insist that i'm ony 18 AFTER the year, so i not really sure. I just a normal sec 5 five student.
I received a call from ns and now know i can still defer ns for my poly education.
I would like to know which route save more time. This is what i calculate.
Me>1 yrs retaking o>Ns>Poly>Total time=6 yrs
poly graduates>poly>NS>5 yrs>waiting time??<
So in comparsion, I will either save from mth to half year depending on how long poly graduates need to wait before enlisting. I hope u understand what i trying to say...(hard to elaborate)
By the way, don't flame me or blame me for not knowing what i want and only take shortcut. Because now i still don't know what i want...i can only study and go ns for the sake of doing it...not because i love it or hate it. I will either starve to death or grow into an old man before deciding what i "want".
the fastest way is to do your NS, get a SAF scholarship, so that you can both study and do your NS at the same time, some more hor, with Saf scholarship, u can become general or minister....father and mama will be very happy

dont talk rubbish if you know nothing.
another questions..is poly intake date fixed?
or it vary from year to year?
if i go ns..then come out on oct...need to wait another year because i miss the intake date..that will be so ..SAD.
go poly 1st
then can go command school
with O level u go in, ur friends will be those ite, n level, o level. mono-intake. shit life.

hmm...do u know if i choose to go army..i will be one of those "friends" u listed?
yeah..command school..higher rank = higher pay.
If you are still keen in studies...
go complete your studies in Poly 1st...
Becos... if you wait until you complete your NS, you may not have the mood to study (and with just O levels... you won't even get an average pay job)...
And nowadays... even with Diplomas, it won't assured you a good career... you need to upgrade yourself when you are working....

you go army now
later come back study poly, you will be older than your classmate.
very hard to blend it.

Correct...
If you choose to go army over studies, your future female classmates will find you too old.... lol.
Go ask your family members (or even relatives) for their advices... i believed they will give you a definite answer to your doubts.

If you can study you will be posted to better unit (technical or command school) else u will be banned (to the cannot study type such as mono intake, rifleman)
When you go to NS when you are too young, you will lose out, and get bullied. Because you ARE young and innocent. But it is ok as some people are too blurred to realize that anyway.
Going to NS first then use this two years to find your direction is also good.
So it is up to you to decide you want to be tortured by teachers or sergeants?
Actually to me, I see no difference now because everyone serving 2 years, except if you want to SISPEC, OCS or some those so call higher education needed vocations.

not really lar...depends on what kind of person U are.

agree.
if U are not aiming for specialist/officer...no difference.

yah u will have to wait another year...that's what happened to me....
Well
my parents said i can choose my own future. (less stress).
friends ask me to continue my studies.
I think it's better for me to go study as the goal to study is to EARN cash...why earn 400 plus when i can earn more?
Since i can never win my friends (good rivals)..might as well study hard and get the best course in poly. (since no courses interest me)
my only motivation to study are my pride and still pride. (shut the relatives eyes of "loser" they shown me.)
Well, seems like you have decided... then go for it...
don't hesitate too much...
Study hard... good luck !!
Go study first of course, if you go into army now, chances are, you might not have the interest to study later on. The normal route is defer now and study first. You can earn your money in weekends or during school holidays
hi guys..
although i am still hesitating of what i really want...my mind is set to poly after my private o this year UNTIL i read this quote from a forumer which cause worried me. Here the quote
hi there, you can only combine result if they are one year apart like 08/09 ( that's why my eng teacher told me too)
i took o's in 08 and retook my enligsh in 09, they sent me a result slip including all of my other subjects which i took in 08 and my new result for english which i took in 09.
And on the slip it says you may apply jae via your result : 08/09 (or something along that line )
i didn't apply for jae when i first took my o levels and only applied for a JC this year via JAE if i am not wrong
you cannot apply for JAE the second time meaning if you took o's this year and apply for JAE and you retook certain subs next year, you are not eligible for JAE, you will have to apply for poly/jc through other means ( don't ask me what)
SO IS THIS TRUTH OR NOT...grateful for all help provided to me.
hello weeliang,
you are already a young adult. You can search this in MOE, or other poly website under admission. It will state clearly when is the admission date and other information. .
