Hi guys,
Currently, i'm waiting for enlistment which is 29 july.
I;m interested in signing on air force as the weapon system officer.
i'm also accepted by NTU direct honor to 2nd year EEE.
so do i have a higher chance of getting the officer role i want?
Is sign on a good choice?

This is the one that sit behind the airplane and shoot the missile, is it?
My cousin is WSO training in France?? now. Poly sign on guy. He is having fun there, he like airplane.
From the RSAF website,
"You can look forward to a starting salary which ranges from $2,040 to $3,620, depending on your educational qualifications. " <--- normal engineering pay now is about S$2500-3500 or more depending on where you go for EEE.
"6-year bond after your studies for Local Study Award (LSA) - Pilot / WSO(FTR)" and they provide you with everything and normal month salary. <-- this deal is not bad, except for the bond. If you can live till 80 years, that is 12.5% of your life will be with RSAF.
If you want ORD after 10 years, you must be prepared to do something else. Be prepared to be on duty/standby for everyday, night or day shift.
Wow, WSO, sit behind the pilot in F-15, and tell the pilot to siam this and that. So cool hor the job.

humm, it is the other way round. My cousin is "downgraded" from pilot to WSO.
wso has no future.. although there are 1 or 2 that managed to convert to pilots after they left the force to join SIA, they start right from the bottom.
either be a pilot or don't sign on at all.. the airforce is sitll a pilot dominated organisation.
Take it as your "stepping" stones to a more payroll $ job with the commerical airlines. Actually, your interest in the job is Most important... if your just do it for $, the Odds may make you regret later and you will be bonded to the contract. If the interest & $ is good.... Go for it... !!! Iron-rice bowl with the govt...
Does a WSO even get to fly the damn plane first?
NO...for a wso to convert to SIA is almost as difficult as a fresh grad applying for SIA. you go through the full training etc..
go study and lead a more meaningful life
u might love the assforce but the assforce doesn't love u

this is the first time i see you refer to RSAF as "airforce" instead of "assforce"

sh*t
my mistake
""If you want ORD after 10 years, you must be prepared to do
something else. Be prepared to be on
duty/standby
for everyday, night or day shift.""
what does this mean??
well, i;m interested in aircraft thats why i wanted to join the air force as a career.
i studied EEE(areospace) in SP but this course is not recongize as an areospace course. so i can only studied EEE in UNI.
what i think is being an officer. good pay good future. as they plan nicely for u.
degree first . then go for courses. slowly they will send for master. but this will take years too
i hope that i make the correct choice. lol
"well, i'm interested in aircraft thats why i wanted to join the air force as a career."
mistake yet to be commit
turn round while u still can
dun bother until after you get your degree.
sign on poly no future, and promotion is slower.
since i;m accepted by NTU EEE. why not i sign on first and take the sholarship to study??

1. If you are interested in aircraft you should apply MAE. Aerospace engineering instead of EEE. MAE make "PARTS" of the aircraft. EEE make circuit board. They are so different .
2. "If you want ORD after 10 years, you must be prepared to do something else. " <-- this line warn you that what you learnt as WSO is not a recognized skills outside as a civilian. So you start from scratch, as mentioned by the others.
3. Be prepared to be on duty/standby for everyday, night or day shift."" <-- whether it is airforce, army, navy, there is duty. I am not sure how is the airforce schedule is like, but there should be night/day shift, standby for 24 hours, immediate call back. Or stuff related. And it is your job to remain contactable at all times.

If you are firmed with your decision by all means go ahead. If this is what you like. This is a good choice.
But... in 5-6 years time, after grad, you may want to pursue career in banking, start a business, EE engineer, teachers,.... How can you be sure your interest would not change?
SP EEE course cannot apply NTU MAE. so i got no choice to take EEE..
erm maybe u are right . but then really hard to decide now..
i can only hope that my interest will not die down so fast. lol
past topics for reference:
F-15,
how do u wanna tell yer kids what u did in yer life??do u wanna tell them u were a dull school teacher or some guy shovelling shit as part of your life????do u hear a dull thud whenever u tell folks bout yer job?
if u can make it thru the pilot selection...then u get to enrich your life further for what it is!when u die u will carry this enrichening experience as a fighter pilot to your next life.
u need to be brave to be a figher pilot....for some people this was what they wanted to do when they were a kid.For some its in engineering and building far out stuff in the civilian world.

Have you ever considered to start from year 1 instead of direct entry to year 2 in MAE?
Do you like the electronic or mechanical part the plane?
lokey....starting from year one is a waste of time because year one he should have covered it from previous courses.
in this modern age,one should know both the electronics and mechanical side of plane.as course from the local university usnt catered for both aspects,it should be noted that even after him having completed his degree,it may still not cover parts of how the airplane should be designed, the structure, materials, avionics etc.
most university courses dont teach all of that...
my SP EEE course cannot apply MAE. lol.
if i can go back year 1. i don mind. cos i mostly forget everything by the time i go UNI.
i think i shld go for BMT first. then decide my next step. i believe this is the best solution. haha
Fighter-15, why interested in WSO in the first place?
Suggest you consider the Pilot vocation and see how far you can go. If you do fail the Pilot vocation (ie, flying training), the force might offer you to be a WSO if they deem you to have the minimum aptitude for flying.
i still say this, either be a pilot or don't sign on at all. dont be a wso..
and actually, transport pilot have the best life in the squadrons, fighters and heli the worst..
