Hi,
I understand that both ORD and ROD fall on 0000hrs of the ORD/ROD date given. Is this correct? If so, why do personnel still return ON the day of their ORD/ROD back to camp, when technically their service has ended?
For e.g. if ROD falls on 130410, 0000hrs, is there an ABSOLUTE need for servicemen to return to camp on 130410?
i ask this as i might have a flight to catch ON the day of my ROD

Your ORD/ROD date that is provided is only sort of a guide.
You're effective ORD is official only when you get your discharge papers signed by your CO.
I have known someone who ORDed a week late because he was unable to do his clearance due to various reasons.
SO if you ORD on the 130410, the procedure is that you have to collect your pink card that signifies your freedom and then you have to go to your CO (depending on your unit's SOP) to provide you with your Certicate of Service. Only THEN are you free.
If you have already booked your flight and all, then good luck to you. Maybe you can appeal your case and get the things a day early or something.
On my ORD date, we only managed to leave camp in the PM since my CO was out of camp in the AM for some reason. I was a commmander so i had to collect my certificate of service from the CO Office.
So ya. Good luck.
