hi, ive been posted to OETI to become heavy arms tech.
but i have no idea what its about.
from what ive read so far, there is some 4 month course to go through, after that, u will be posted to unit ah?
can anybody share roughly what will i do during the course, and after the course? and i read from some thread that heavy arms tech get 3SG rank? and can get to go overseas? (:
do heavy arms tech get to stay out all their life? because im thinking of giving tuition since my current posting is stay out...
oh, and does anybody know how long does the bus takes to go from buona vista mrt to the ayer rajah camp?

All your answers. Okay, maybe not all.
hey you do heavy arms i do small arms heh!
now still can get 3SG rank? i saw in some other places that techs dont get 3SG anymore unless ur performance is especially stellar during your course
go ask for overseas posting after training, crescendo, starlight, take home 1k more allowance a month plus you get to travel and see things.
the 3SG thingy i really got no idea.
im interested to go overseas haha. whats crescendo and starlight? overseas posting means u have to be attached to unit or base? i hope i can stay out because i need the extra $ from tuition that i can give. haha.

crescendo = thailand
starlight = taiwan
lancer = brunei
all three are overseas training bases and they do have a requirement for heavy arms armament techs, cos there are armoured vehicles and artillery based there permanently.
scrap the tuition, the overseas allowance would be bigger than anything you can make from tuition, plus, there are the weekends in bangkok, in taipei ....

Bangkok and Taipei are fine.
But if he get posted to Brunei....
haha. care to share whats with brunei?
uh, so if i get overseas posting, basically i will just follow any unit that goes over for that period of time huh. and keep going and going whenever there are units going overseas.
or do they post you permanently to one country? eg if u have to go taipei the first time all the subsequent vists are to taipei too haha. oh and how long is 1 overseas training?

you will be posted there to the oversea camp, for a period between 3 months to as long as 1yr.
as a nsf wose, you get extra $1.4k oversea allowance, in addition to your pay
wahz. 1 year leh....if i go places like thailand, i probably can speak near fluent thai when i come back. hahaha. then i probably will forget the overseas posting. not convenient for me personally to be away so long....

There are no nightclubs in Brunei, and there is only one shopping center. You will have a hard time finding entertainment, and will likely go over to the cinema at the shopping center to watch movies every weekend.
This is in stark contrast when compared to Taipei and Thailand, though Brunei is no doubt a much safer place as compared to the other two.
if we do get posted there then we would be earning much more than 2LTs who worked their asses off at ocs hah

But if you think about how much the NSF officers who get posted over there are earning... : X

lol i forgot about that, but they are the minority of the officers so even if u go around boasting to ur frens from ocs, you would most likely be earning more than them
OETI: Only Eat Talk Idle.
Treasure it well man!
getting promoted to 3SG is if your good in your current course then the commanders might send you for MSCC course aka sgt course. if i'm not wrong it's 1 month and it's stay in. (weekends can come out lor of course.)
from buona vista mrt to the ayer rajah camp there's 191 but there's super long. you miss the bus must wait half an hour.
so i would recommend you to go dover and take 14/166.
cheers!
OETI can bring psp and mp3?

Brunei's okay if you're not a clubber, but like the outdoors instead. Tons of national parks to hike and decent beaches. You can fly out to Miri, Kota Kinabalu or Kuching on longer R&R periods.
And this is generally the same for anyone working in Brunei as an expat, not just you SAF boys posted over.
