Change of Command: CDF & COA

Major-General (MG) Neo Kian Hong, currently Chief of Army, will take over from Lieutenant-General (LG) Desmond Kuek Bak Chye as Chief of Defence Force on 31 Mar 2010.
Brigadier-General (BG) Chan Chun Sing, currently Chief of Staff - Joint Staff, will assume the appointment of Chief of Army on 26 Mar 2010.
These changes are part of the continuing process of leadership renewal in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
Oh man! What are the possible changes you guys can see?
LG Kuek took the step forward and brought the second generation SAF into a 3G SAF. I wonder what the new CDF will bring to the table.
My 2 cents worth, I think leadership should consists of warriors, not scholars.

and here i thought that the ex chief of airforce ng chee khern will be the next cdf..but then again, there can only be 1 powerful family in singapore..and its not ng..

this is small case wait until u see LHL and LHY sons all become chief of army/air force/navy and CDF position one day...nepotism prevails...

Their sons will become Prime Minister and Ministers lah. Chief of army/air force/navy is too small fly post for them lah -

HAHA! Ya. He once commented that "All junior commanders should step up and take up the Ranger challenge and all unit commanders should encourage their subordinates to do so."
Later Ranger course become compulsory... HAHA!
But I'm disappointed that the incoming COA is so much less decorated then the outgoing COA. A trained Ranger and Guardsman, Thai Airborne Badge if I'm not wrong, Senior Parachutist with lots of ribbons. The incoming COA cannot compare in terms of decorations.

Hmmm true true. Since they are policy makers, then I guess its better to be more educated.
I just wonder what possible changes will the new CDF bring to the table.
Our neighbors must be trying to figure out what the new CDF is like by now. Determining if this new CDF will do anything funny.

CDF is only a puppet. He is just following orders from the Lee family -

If the transformation of the SAF from 2G to 3G is orders from the Lee family, I must say they are really amazing and handling everything well.
Outgoing CDF transform the SAF into a effective armed force that even foreign forces agree that SAF is credible and operationally ready force.
There might be some string pulling behind but still the CDF decide what is good for the SAF and improve the standard.
Just my honest opinion. =D

Singapore is for show only. Everyone knows. Where got general keep on changing one. Singapore an unique country. The personnel also not enluff to keep a 3 star general. The most 1 star will enluff. We got 1 million regulars is it. haha. joker.
we have 500,000 man reserve but how many pec C. see for yourself. Be realistic and face the facts.

Indeed. CDF is just a puppet. He listen to the Minister of defence- Lao Teo. U see. Always got overseas general come. Lao Teo always go and entertain one. The CDF is just like a passer by. Help to entertain them only.Btw, why got so many badges? SAF din even fight in war before. They just want to make the uniform look nice only. But to me it just a pile of useless badges. If u are US Marines 4 star general. I think u dun even look upon our generals in Singapore. China same too.

I agree that SAF is partly for show only. Its a deterrent force. And if the showing off keep me and my love ones safe, then go ahead and show off all they want. Same as a muscular dude showing off his huge biceps and abs to warn off potential trouble makers like those bouncers at night club. Those bouncers are a deterrent to trouble makers.
I don't know if many are PES C like you said. Unless there is data to prove that the bulk of our forces are PES C, or else we can't comment much about our forces physical capabilities.

* A strong forces consist of how many regulars. Refer to US and China. U need a 3 star to rule over i mean i est 100,000 regular and active NSF. What kind of logic. Read history. 4 to 5 star is always born when a war start and all the reserve forces became active or after war.

* So can you list down his concern of work for our country to see, please include his salary also so we can benchmark. No offense.

Singapore is a conscripted force. We can't anyhow start a conflict and send our serviceman to fight and possibly die. However these Generals regularly go through mission planning and approach foreign generals to sit in and give advices and correct all the mistake. "This is base on what my friend told me, no real actual data but i see its possible."
Their mission is to ensure the sovereignty of this land. But still they need to eat and send their kids to school and pay bills. Money and rank just come along with this job.
Just curious icyboiz but what is the real purpose you are talking about?
