i called navy and ask about the poly-saf scheme. I'm in my third year of poly and im thinking of signing on, but not as a specialist.
i asked them if i can join the scheme(which ill get 40% of the tution fees + allowance) as a officer instead of specs.
anyone think its a good idea? I'm going down for a recruitment talk next friday then afterwhich i can decide if i want to sign on. but still, i have to go through interview and everything which is no gurantee i can get in. haha.
As usual, we never advice a person to sign on to SAF until he has at least enlisted and knows how the SAF works. Many who considered signing were glad they didn't after enlistment.

Navy you need to sign on, to get enlisted in their BMT.
But be sure you will not get sea sick.
I dont know about you, try to find out about sea life. it is quite different .

You can still sign on to navy in army BMT and still get into Navy after that so no harm getting into the SAF, learn about how they work before choosing to sign.
There are many who break their bonds because they dislike the work after signing on too early so its best not to make a hasty decision.

No. You don't need to be a regular to get enlisted in their mono-intake
and u can always sign on during bmt..
Best TS don't heed the ads, especially the ones on the trains that go:
7AM: Watch sunrise.
7PM: Watch sunset.
7pm-7am: Sleep in a small bunk shared with 10 other men.
7am-7pm: Sit in the small and hot engine room monitoring the computers :D

This one also wishful thinking.
never believe in the ads about regular lives.....they always paint a perfect picture...life is never perfect.
i susgest signing on specialist and ggo toward sthe technician route. choose vocations that is useful even after you completed your bond and still be employable in the private sectors. Officers and combat vocations really very difficult to find jobs in private sectors.
I was from navy. Most ppl i know who signed up the saf-poly scheme were unhappy.
Furthermore, sea life is really different. Many ppl cannot take the routine n sea-sickness despite them being very healthy and fit. While some just finds it easy to adjust to.
You need advice from someone who you can trust and has experienced navy. The few yrs of bond associated with such education scheme can really dragged u down later after you work full time...
one thing to note is going out to sea is definitely of higeher risk than say vocations that require you to stay on land most of the time or maintenance job.
Can girl sign on as navy?

Different Navy BMT dont have field camp, road march, SOC and so many stuff. And Navy BMT is completely different from Army. LOL. So different.

I didn't say you don't need reBMT. I just said you can sign on AFTER BMT so you have a taste of how SAF works.

But I cannot stand boring life.

I am saying the treatment for Navy BMT and Army BMT is different. Army BMT is like shit; whereas Navy BMT, the officer respect the recruits, and the jobs are more technical based, a lot of seamen terminology, skills, so it is more like school, training seamen. (but NDU is quite different.)
Of course you need not reBMT. One can always sign on later ... but why bother when one have already decided and they dont need to experience undesirable Army BMT. For what?

We don't talk about just experiencing BMT. Entering the SAF gives you a chance to see how they work and learn more about some of the regimental stuff etc which is still relatively common between all 3 service. If a person has experience it and decides that the regimental lifestyle is not to his liking, he does not have to sign on.
Don't tell me RSN or RSAF slacker etc. If you can't take the toughest and worse treatment, you should not bother considering signing on since there is no assurnace of things being easy in any of the services.

Anyway... Goilpo and I think the more important thing "sign on" Navy is SEASICKNESS and Routined work.
The ship goes out to sea for frigate and LST, can be simple patrol at South China Sea to all the way to Atlantic Sea for 2 weeks to 8 months or even a year or two. "Watch" is like 8 hours shift divided into 3 teams for seamen?. Officers are 12 hours shift? <-- lol Watching and operating the ship around the clock. There is no day, no night. Sailing life is different. But back to Singapore where will be docking rest. Men go HOME. Officer stay in base for operation report and next mission planning.
Sign on blah!! Sign !!! My friend commented that he need more manpower in his ship.

12 hr shift? So good ar?
Watch is 8 hrs only ar? So good ar?
Go back to harbour = go home ar? System no need check and power down is it? Equipments no need to wash ar?
Enough said for now.
I a Ex navy crew. I sign on after my 'O' levels, Sign on the doted line on the 1st April 1998. (APRIL FOOL DAY) 6 years in the NAVY. There is good, there is bad. 1st of all, U must be able to endure sea state, secondly U must pass IPPT.
those days if you're a poly and sign up as a officer, now at most U're only be a major. Nowadays, poly and degree so many, unless you have an edge over the others, else you can't even reach CPT level.
If you want to know more, email me, i send U my mobile number and we chat over the phone and i let you know more how's life in the NAVY.
Hope U have not sign on the doted line before U understand more of what NAVY life is all about.
I sign on because of this ad. The SUN, SAND and the SEA.
anyway, just be aware that the saf is always lacking of manpower..so meaning that you'll end up having to do extra work and work longer hours..and as what many has already mentioned, do not for any reason trust the advertisments.. its one of the biggest con jobs you'll ever find..
actually i dont totally agree on what Goilpo has said. I am from the navy and in service for almost 6 years and am in the LST for 4 years alr and i have never sailed more than 4 months. It really depends on what platform you are in and all ship's routine are really different if you would like to know more u can just pm me :) what i can say is yes the seasickness is really something u got to overcome yup u get to go many different countries but like what alot of ppl say, you get what u give :p so pm me if u really wanna know more :)
