Hi, guys...
im 21 this year in few more months i will be graduating from poly...anyway what i want to ask is... my bro was from commando
will there be chances for me to get into commando or even into a unit like guard or infantry?

Hi Jordanchan,
Having a sibling in a Commando unit does not mean that you will have a higher chance of getting into Commando units.
A lot of other factors, such as your PES and medical history, will have to be taken into consideration.

nah...i was asking cause i scared i will tio commando or units like guard etc lol....
i heard from people that if your bro is commando most likely the younger bro will not get into commando...not sure issit a myth anot

Hi Jordanchan,
That is generally an unproven myth. There are also myths such as the only child will not be chosen for Commando units, though it has been proven to be untrue.

Hi Jordan,
Have you went for the medical check up yet? If you are not requested to go to the interview in Hendon Camp then need not worry. As for guards, it's a heng and sway thing....that's goes the same to all the vocations.

It doesn't mean if your bro went to comamndos you will suffer the same fate. but it is tough. guards is not. guards is no different from infantry. anyone who's been through NS knows that, dun even need to sign on to know. the differentiation of guards from infantry is no more than than a creation of another (mythical) force to scare the enemies. the missions of infantry and guards are exactly the same. the only thing they supposedly do that infantry doesn't is rappelling from chopper but its not done in unit. guardsmen only do it once during the guards conversion course and never do it again, unless its for filming army TV ads, they may do. and infantry also does rappelling in urban ops.

usually.. if someone in the family(brothers) goes commando..the others very unlikely..

anyway i got another qus to ask....cause i finish ITE then straight away go poly....so when i just graduate from ITE i kana enlist letter for police but i differ away for poly
so is there still chances of me getting back into police after i graduate from poly?

I believe the interviews are after the checkup and not before since your PES has to be confirm before they will consider whether to ask u go for interview.
The chance of going back is pretty low which is why most of the time we would advice people who get into SPF/SCDF to not delay their enlistment or risk going into SAF.

very unlikely..after poly u should get another check up...

There are a lot of factors involved in deciding your vocation, but I don't think sibling's vocation has anything to do with it...
I know of 3 brothers, the first two kenna commando and the last one kenna NDU...naval diving unit.

anyway got a off topic qus...if i fail my nafa i have to go in early for PTP right? what do i exactly do there? is it as xiong as bmt?

Risk your life? Did your bro loss his in commandos?
Anyway, PTP is just a period of physical training, running, strength training etc for 2 months followed by BMT which is filled with military training with abit of physical training.

every NS story would end up way more xiong and garang with each telling one ..... just like in every fishing story, the fish gets bigger and bigger with each retelling ...
