hi people,
i am enlisting in this dec, and i have been wanting to get an clas 3 driving liscence. is it possible for ns men to take driving lessons during my ns time?
i read a few threads, and i know that driver can convert to civilian licences..but i may not get driver mah...cause everyone keep saying jc ppl wont get driver one..
so is it possible then one can book out(after bmt , when into their respective units) and take driving lessons? but that means one must book their driving lessons on weekends isit? or get private instrustors to coach you on weekends? if you go for school lessons, can change the lesson date, in case u kena confinment or wat?
before the driving lessons, must take the btt and tp test etc etc...must i go take these test now, cause must wait very long between each test?
tks for advice...
of course you can, you can do almost anything during NS ... PROVIDED you manage your time well.
I know a chap, he managed to complete half a part time degree during NS, WHILE being a platoon commander at Tekong, after OCS, and he did well enough at his job that he became company 2IC before ORDing ......
just remember your priorities and obligations .... don't come whinning here a few months later complaining that you're not being allowed out, in the middle of a scheduled exercise or course or something, that's really kiam pah, and dumb on your own part.

if you are lucky you get posted to be a vech spec or scout... you will get to learn how to drive or ride.
Pray hard that you are lucky enough for SAF to award you a vehicle license.
as long the lessons are on weekends, and i can book out on weekeds, everything is alright?
but thats if i can book out lar, cause got courses/ exercises lar..so does the driving school allow you to change yr sheduled lessons? or i can choose whether to have a lesson on that weekend or not?
or is it better to get a private instructor? as long i pass yr driving theory test and get the provisional driving liscence( which you will get if i pass all the theory tests right), then ask the pvte driving guy to teach me when i can book out? does it work this way too?
how many driving lessons must one take? is it specified by the law? or as long the guy think can liao, then just sign up for a date to take practical test?
tks

As far as i heard from all my drivers, only people without a driving license will be posted as a driver/transport spec etc
Except a pure vocation driver, its not that easy for the rest to clock the 7000km millage required for conversion to CV license.

Booking out etc depends on your unit schedule whichever vocation you get. There is no absolute weekend sure will bookout due to exercise, workload etc etc.
However you can choose apply leave subjected to PS/PC etc approval if you do need to go for lessons or the test.
All ur other questions do not belong to SAF related issue so its best you get your answers elsewhere.

I think this one I can confirm, the driver spec that drive me around at time is an A level guy. Because you know, most drivers are those school dropout and ITE. This guy is different can speak very well. So I ask him and later I find out that he is a driver spec and he plan driving schedule for the unit.
He dont know how he CK until he get to be a driver. He is posted directly to driving school after BMT. Then vocational award as spec.
Good life.

Transport Spec is a PES B/C vocation and no need really chao keng to get. They are given the vocation as a transport spec and not bring promoted from being a driver.
All transport specs will learn driving but they rarely are able to clock the 7000km millage required unless they always go on detail.

but once you know driving, you can go private outside and take the circuit and practical will save you alot of $$$ also

I guess thats what many of them do. Some of the transport spec i know even got their license while they were serving their NS after they completed the driving course in SAF.

take ur btt before u enlist. den during ur 2 weeks confinement study for ftt. (u need to pass btt before u are allowed to book ftt.)
and waiting time for theory test is around 2 weeks long
PDL is valid for 6 months, before you need to renew again. $25 to apply, renew.
btt valid for lifetime.
ftt valid for 2 years.
and driving lessons, school is around $80 for 2 hr session on weekends. private around $40-50 for 100mins.
waiting time for school driving lesson is 3 weeks. so u must plan your lessons very carefully. dun get confined over the weekend.
den you need around 20-22 lessons before you can take the TP test.
so if u want to get ur license fast, be prepared to chiong 3,4 or even 5 lesson every weekend.
TP waiting time for school SSDC around 1month+. Private is at least 3 months, and can even be up to 6 months.
tks man!!! very good help..now i know what to do next..thanks:)
the pdl 2nd renewal is for life, or just another 6 months?
