Exit Permit Application
Exit Permit requirement for National Service Pre-enlistees aged between 13 and above
If you are between 13 and 16.5 years old (WEF 15 Aug 2006):
You need to apply for an exit permit if you intend to travel or remain overseas for 3 months or longer. If you are remaining overseas for 2 years or longer, your parents/guardians will also need to furnish a bond, in the form of a Banker's Guarantee of S$75,000 or 50% of the combined annual gross income of both parents for the preceding year, whichever is higher.
If you are above 16.5 and have not enlisted for NS:
You need to apply for an exit permit if you intend to travel or remain overseas for 3 months or longer. Your parents/guardians will need to furnish a bond, in the form of a Banker's Guarantee of S$75,000 or 50% of the combined annual gross income of both parents for the preceding year, whichever is higher.
How to apply for an exit permit
National Service Pre-enlistees between 13 and 16.5 years old
You can apply for an exit permit via Exit Permit Application.
National Service Pre-enlistees above 16.5 years old
You are required to register for National Service before applying for exit permit. You can get your login user-ID and password via the NS Portal to register for National Service.
You may be required to submit documentary proof for your e-exit permit (e-EP) application. The e-EP system will prompt you if you are required to submit documentary proof. Once your application is approved, you will be given an e-EP number for reference.
In the event that a bond is required, you are to submit documentary proof of your overseas study status, your parent's employment status and income tax assessment notices for the preceding year to CMPB for preparation of the bond. The exit permit will be issued only after the bond process has been completed.
Exit Permit requirement for Full-time National Serviceman and Regulars (WEF 1 Aug 2006)
If you intend to travel overseas for more than 3 months, you are required to apply for an exit permit. You must obtain approval for overseas leave and ensure that you have not been scheduled any duty during the period of overseas trip, before applying for exit permit through the Internet. Once your application for exit permit is approved, an eEP number will be given to you for reference. No hardcopy exit permit will be issued.
No exit permit is required for Official Duty and overseas travel of less than 3 months.
How to apply for an exit permit
You can apply for an exit permit via Exit Permit Application.
You are not required to submit any documentary proof for your e-exit permit (e-EP) application unless you are randomly selected by the system. Once your application is approved, you will be given an e-EP number for reference.
Exit Permit requirement for Operationally Ready National Servicemen
If you intend to travel overseas, you are required to apply for an exit permit only if you are traveling and remaining overseas for period of 6 months and longer in a single trip.
All NSmen below the age of 50 for Officers and 40 for Warrant Officers, Specialists, Other Ranks and Enlistees who are leaving the country for more than 24 hours but less than 6 months are required to notify MINDEF Notification Centre (MNC) / Overseas Notification Centre (ONC) via Notification of Overseas Trips of their overseas trips. With effect from 1 Aug 06, NSmen who have completed their ORNS Training Cycle and posted to MINDEF Reserve (MR) / SPF or SCDF Reserve are no longer required to notify MNC/ONC of their overseas trips of less than 6 months.
If your trip is less than 1 year and you have been scheduled for NS training during the period of overseas trip, you are required to obtain approval from your NS unit before applying for an exit permit.
You are also required to first obtain approval from your NS unit if the trip is 1 year or longer and your NS training scheduled within 6 months from the date of application for exit permit. Otherwise, you may apply for you are exit permit directly through the Internet.
No documentary proof is required for application of exit permit by NSman except for randomly selected applications that are prompted through the system.
Upon approval of your application, you will be given an eEP number for reference. No hardcopy exit permit will be issued.
Disruption from NS for Operationally Ready National Servicemen
An NSman will also be granted disruption of NS if he has been issued with an exit permit which is valid for more than 1 year. Upon disruption, he may not be posted back to his previous unit upon expiry of his disruption. He will also complete his training cycle later than his cohorts.
In addition, an NSman who is an appointment holder will not receive his National Service Command Allowance or Key Appointment Holder Allowance during the period of disruption

Going Overseas
I am an NSF. I would like to go overseas but my international passport has expired. What is the procedure to extend my passport?
Your passport can be extended to the maximum of 10 years from the date the passport was issued or 5 years for passports issued on and after 1 Apr 2005. You can extend your passport at the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), Exit Permit Office at Central Manpower Base for MINDEF's NSFs or Exit Permit Offices of SPF& SCDF for MHA's NSFs.

I am an NSF. I would like to go overseas after I have completed my full-time National Service. How can I extend my International Passport?
Your International passport should have already been extended to the maximum of 10 years from the passport issue date or 5 years for passports issued on and after 1 Apr 2005. However, if it is not, you may extend your passport either at the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), Exit Permit Office at Depot Rd for MINDEF's NSFs or Exit Permit Offices of SPF& SCDF for MHA's NSFs. It will then be extended to 10 years from the date of issue of the passport or 5 years for passports issued on and after 1 Apr 2005.
If your passport has already been extended up to 10 yrs from the date of issue or 5 years for passports issued on and after 1 Apr 2005, you are required to proceed to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) to apply for a new passport.
I am a parent of a Pre-enlistee. I would like to extend my son's passport that has expired. What is the procedure?
The passport can be extended to the maximum of 10 years from the passport issue date or 5 years for passports issued on or after 1 Apr 2005 at the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) or Central Manpower Base.
If your passport has already been extended up to its maximum validity, you are required to proceed to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) to apply for a new passport.
I am older than 11 years but younger than 16 years old. I would like to go overseas for holiday. How do I extend my passport?
You may extend your passport at Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) or CMPB with your parent/guardian.
The following original documents must be produced:
a. Singapore International Passport
b. National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) (if application)
c. Birth Certificate
d. Parent/legal guardian's NRIC
e. Legal document of guardianship (if applicable)

You are only required to extend your passport if you are going overseas.
My son is 10 years old. Can I extend his International passport at your office?
Your son's passport has to be extended at the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). Central Manpower Base can only extend passports of boys who are 11 years old and above.
How can I extend my passport or apply for a new one if I am overseas?
You may extend your passport or apply for a new passport with your valid Exit Permit at the nearest overseas Singapore High Commission or Embassy.
I am a Pre-enlistee. I would like to extend my International passport. Do I need to apply for an exit permit first?
You may extend your passport without having to apply for an exit permit. However, you are required to apply for an exit permit if your overseas trip is more than 3 months.

You do not need to apply for an exit permit if your overseas trip is 6 months or shorter. However, you will need to inform the NS e-Services Centre if your trip exceeds 24 hours. If the duration of your overseas trip is more than 6 months but less than 1 year, you will need to have your NS unit's/NSSC's recommendation before applying for an exit permit.
If your trip is less than 1 year and you have been scheduled for NS training during the period of overseas trip, you are required to obtain approval from your NS unit/NSSC before applying for an exit permit.
You are also required to first obtain approval from your NS unit/NSSC if the trip is 1 year or longer and your NS training is scheduled within 6 months from the date of application for exit permit. Otherwise, you may apply for your exit permit directly through the Internet.
*You will need to apply for deferment if you have been called up for National Service training
*If your deferment is not approved, you are required to report for the scheduled National Service training

I am an NSman and am going overseas for business. Do I need to apply for exit permit?
You do not need to apply for an exit permit if your overseas trip is 6 months or shorter. How do I apply for overseas disruption?
You can apply for an exit permit through Apply Exit Permit. You must obtain your NS unit's/NSSC's recommendation* prior to your application, if necessary. Disruption will be granted upon approval of your application for exit permit.
Advance notice of 6-12 months is given for ICT. If your National Service training is less than 6 months from the date of application, you are required to seek your NS unit's/NSSC's recommendation for your exit permit/disruption. When the NS unit/NSSC does not agree to the deferment of your ICT, you are required to complete your National Service training before your exit permit/disruption is approved.
I have applied for an exit permit for going overseas for more than 1 year and it has been approved. Do I still need to apply for disruption from National Service?
Once your exit permit application has been approved, your disruption from national service will be processed simultaneously. Hence it is not necessary to apply to your respective Personnel Management Centres/NSSC/ NS units for disruption from National Service.
I am going overseas to look for a job. I do not have a documentary proof now. What should I do?
You may leave without an exit permit by informing NS e-Services Centre of your overseas trip at 1800-3676767 first. However, you are required to apply for an exit permit through Apply Exit Permit, within 6 months from the date of departure.
No documentary proof is required for application of exit permit by Nsmen. Random verification of proof is only for selected applications.
I am going overseas to look for a job. I do not have a documentary proof now. What should I do?
If you have completed your ORNS Training Cycle and posted to MINDEF Reserve (MR) / SPF or SCDF Reserve, you may leave without an exit permit. Subsequently, you are required to apply for an exit permit through Apply Exit Permit, within 6 months from the date of departure. If I am not able to come back upon expiry date of exit permit, what do I have to do?
You will need to apply for an extension of your exit permit through the Apply Exit Permit.
I have already applied for an exit permit but I need to leave earlier than the date stated. Can I change the date on the exit permit? What is the procedure?
You will need to cancel the current exit permit and then re-apply for a new one.
This can be done through the Apply Exit Permit.
I have changed my course of study/ university. My exit permit is still valid. Do I need to re-apply for a new exit permit again?
If you have changed your course or university, you are required to re-apply for a new exit permit through Apply Exit Permit.
I have a valid exit permit for overseas employment/study/etc. I am coming back for my vacation. Do I need to return the exit permit? What should I do?
If you are staying for more than 30 days in Singapore, your exit permit would be invalidated and you would be required to apply for another one if you decide to go back. This can be done through Apply Exit Permit.
If there is a change of my place of employment and I am currently overseas, what should I do?
You are required to apply for a fresh exit permit through Apply Exit Permit.
I am a NSman. I am holding an exit permit for overseas study/employment. As I am back to Singapore for good, what do I need to do with the exit permit?
With effect from 1 Aug 2006, NSmen are no longer required to surrender their exit permits. Your exit permit will automatically be invalidated after 30 days of your return to Singapore. You may be scheduled for NS activities upon invalidation or expiry of your exit permit, whichever is earlier. For enquiry regarding NS call-ups and deferment you can call the 24-hour customer service centre at 1800-3676767 (1800-eNSNSNS).
What is the maximum duration of exit permit that I can apply for?
An exit permit is normally granted on a yearly basis for overseas employment, permanent residence or training. An exit permit of a maximum of 3 years may be granted for overseas employment or training. If you are studying overseas, an exit permit can be granted for the full duration of your course.
Do I need to amend my exit permit if there is a change in destination?
You will need to cancel the current exit permit and re-apply for a new one.
