Hi, I'd like to ask if anyone knows the GOM or Directive on the eligibility to do COS duty? More specifically, are recruits eligible to carry out COS duty when it is a SGT estab. job? Have any of you ever seen a recruit do COS duty?
COS = Orderly Sergeant le ma...
Lance coporal for my unit.
My unit mostly recruit and pte doing lei... wondering if they are going against directive... which they already are for other reasons but this one is what I'm more concerned about.
Aiyah anybody can do one lar, end of the day got someone answer can already lar.
Depend on unit...if not enough 3SG they'll ask CPL to do COS
But this is PTE and REC doing... PES E REC sending and receiving arms inside armskote... something not right lei...
What in SAF is ever right?

Armourer can also be PES C/E de so whats wrong with that? PES E without technical handling just cannot handle the gun doesn't mean he cannot touch it.
In tekong also REC do the sending and receiving of arms.
So there's no rule that you must be a minimum rank to perform COS?
Technically, no.

When it represents Company Only Slave, there isn't much of a need for any minimum rank :p
Haha yeh... Army is disgusting... Thanks for all the replies :)
If it wasn't, would you have posted this thread?
May have to check out the GOM, anyway, to the best of my knowledge, recruits are normally not given duties, but confinements & fatigue.
Some BMTs actually let recruits have the experience of performing guard duty (using only baton & shield ofcourse), that is actually only performable from private onwards. The experience is good, but recruits can have encounters with "evil" spirits where many batches reported, then the recruit could have permanent scarr on the encounter.
Guard duties is equivalent to COS. The basic job of COS is in orderly activities, and much lesser especially after 7pm (after dinner), there is only the standard switching on lights, ensure armskote & CQ room is checked by BDO and cleared, people all go off, or for dinner, lunch, etc, obtain BRO, update next day's guards, ensure everyone bookin, flag lowering etc.
Guards - Pvt to LCP
G3 - CPL - 3SG
G2 - 3SG
GComdr - 3SG - 2SG
BSO - 2SG - 1SG
COS - PFC - LCP
Ok, most importantly is that 1st year units & 2nd year units are different. In 2nd year units, most people doing G3 & COS are normally LCP,CPL. But again, those that kena, is because they kena extras, thus for 2nd year units, the LCP & CPL will kena REAL extra duties, not confine in bunk and sleep all the way.

Everything varies camp by camp and nothing is fixed especially when duty is concern cos each camp has different number of manpower of each rank.
I was already a G2 when i was CPL and my G3 have been PTE or LCP in the past.
Ooh cool... thanks nightzip for the effort! :) Guess I'll go snoop around GOMs and shit :p REC doing COS... I still find it ridiculous :p
You must have completed your A levels?

I'll say that won't help much cos if the unit says you are supposed to do duty you will and they will find some sort of excuse for it to make it valid. Give trouble and you might be the 1 at the suffering end instead
I'm actually dip. holder from poly ditzy :) And yeah I agree with you dkcx, I'm treading carefully. Just feel like looking for some shit that can be stirred up :p Btw just to introduce myself a little, I'm a PES E temp REC who does COS duty and currently am holding the appointment of Coy Clerk. Enjoying life in S4 br at the moment :D

Which camp are u in? Combat or non combat unit?
Oh...forget, if your vocation is guards/duty related, like RP, MP, then ofcourse every alternate may have duties for 12hr shifts.

Our BMTs have already been using recruits in full force to man the guard shifts for quite some time....even the "ulu" area in Tekong.I have even seen RECs from mono intakes doing guard duty at certain camps.
For those who have not passed their THT and live firing, baton and shield. If pass, rifle.
