in any case, we can be sure this guy is gonna be screwed badly by MINDEF for "killing" officer.
i feel sad for this 2LT, but i feel even sadder for this guy who got arrested.
suppose he's really innocent, what will happen to his future and family??!?!!
just because he was forced into conscription, he's now also having to eat severe punishment?!
i feel sad for him. i think MINDEF will let him eat at least 5 - 20 years of DB / civilian jail.
It is entirely possible that he was negligent too. Don't be hasty in defending innocence when the case is not out..
If he is innocent, why would the police (not SAF) take him in? There must be probable cause..
Let's wait for the investigations to complete before we draw any conclusions..

Let's say if a recruit accidentally misfire a live round, killed his friend and as a result, is sentenced to DB for a few years, is it justified?
You may argue that the person who got into DB doesn't deserve it since he was forced into conscription in the first place. But then again, the person who died was forced into conscription too, and he too, don't deserve to die just because he's serving the nation.
No matter where you are, outside world or in the SAF, if your mistake or neligence caused a major lost to someone else, you will have to answer for it.
Will they reveal the truth in newspapers?
actually, till now, we still dunno if that SAF acidentally killed the officer, but now that MINDEF has taken him in, i doubt they'll back-out and say he's innocent.
very likely this guy will be charged in the end.
for the dead officer, at least his parents grieve a period of time, it'll slowly be over.
for this NS guy, his family must be very anxious eevryday, dunno what will happen to their child. This is torture.
and assume that guy was sitting in the rover doing nothing and that the rover rolled down by itself, then this guy really is yuan-wang.
the thing we can learn from this is:
always keep low-profile in SAF, and whatever things that can be siam, u siam.
and keep your distance away from these SAF officers since they're the treasure of the army. if a single hair on their body is touched, MINDEF will come after you.

Try to leave negative assumptions of the case out of the picture, there's no need for a victim mentality all the time you know.
of course, everyone is waiting for explanation from SAF but we know it's never gonna come out.
from my experience, it's always the same.....
1) things happen in SAF
2) MINDEF says will investigate and will ensure security is stepped up. Defence Minister sometimes issue statement assuring parents if issue is severe
3) months later, nothing happens
4) repeat from 1) a few months down the road

i read through the whole thread and was mildly amused by you, especially your 1st response to the news about the arrest of someone -"SAF now finding scapegoat???!!" which paints in a single crystallised moment to everyone how ridiculous you are and have behaved.
You are totally oblivious and blind to how 'self-styled victimised', irrational and prejudiced you sound. You already decided and are bent on that it was SAF who "killed" the officer and the man is also another "victim" when you have no facts on your hand.
NS is mandatory for all citizens of a small vulnerable country. You're welcome to leave and make somewhere else your home rather than have the people here having to co-exist and put up with a bitter person in their midst.

Statistically speaking, no military in the world can prevent accidents from happening. That is life.
What is more important is that individual servicemembers understand what safety means and what common sense is.. those two will reduce unnecessary accidents more than any other thing, victim mentality included.

It would have been good if you had not politicised the thread with your last paragraph.

I am amused by how an igorant kid is giving her stupid comments and asking other people to leave. This just shows how uneducated and ill breed you are.

Do you mean ill bred?
Leave the country. Not the forum. Don't be silly, i can't care less who inhabits cyberspace.
It's a simple straightforward logic. And not undeserved. And definitely impossible to dispute logically. Not happy anywhere? Go. Who's stopping you? It's a free world. You're not bound by slavery terms. This isn't Egyptian times.
And kid? Interesting how in forums, there are people like you (a minority I hope) who can sound so SURE of something they have no faintest idea about, especially something like who they're addressing from behind a monitor. I may be old enough to be your aunt and I'm quite sure my husband was boss to you in some way. The audacious certainty based on nothing is amusing.

What's the logical likelihood of it being an 'accident' when there is now confirmed a driver in the vehicle? It's impossible that the driver was not aware that the vehicle rolled back and onto someone's body. Even if he was the blurrest sotong in the history of Singapore since Sang Nila Utama, after he realised the vehicle rolled onto someone, isn't it logical for him, the driver to steer the vehicle forward to get off the victim? So why didn't he?
I can't 'politicise' something that has nothing to do with politics. go figure. The root of the unhappiness is with conscription, (which is necessary) and also I suspect, in other forums the government. The solution is obvious.

An auntie in age but mentality like a kid. Shame on you. You are better off dead than alive.
You should be the 1 that is leaving. Singapore do not need a childish and naive person like you here

LOL, i feel so funny when i read your post above.
first of all, u're just a pooh-pooh girl who never even serve NS before and u're airing your views as if you're some war veteran. and u still can say "The root of the unhappiness is with conscription, (which is necessary)".
if you're a SG male, then it will break your heart that 2 years of your life is wasted away.
2 years = 17520 hrs.....imagine how much u can do with that time (btw, in NS, 75% of the time is spent on slacking due to nothing to do)
"NS is mandatory for all citizens of a small vulnerable country."?? that's crazy. U can easily make that statement because u're just a little girl who never served NS before.
u know, when war comes, i don't want to die in a war just because the army mobilize me.
just because i'm born in Singapore, it's compulsory for me to die if there's a war?
can't i have a choice of which path i wanna choose in life? war comes, i will gladly be traitor to help the enemies to save my lives.
I dunno about you, but since you look upon your alpha-male hubby so fondly, i'm sure you'll only be too proud and happt if he were to suffer the same fate as that WWII malay lieutentat who was bayonetted to death after being wrapped in a sack with all the blood flowing out of the sack.
i suggest u just post in aunt agont solving relationship problems cos' that's what girls like you are best at.

Haha why should I leave when i am happy here? I suggested you leave because you feel unhappy, so damn sad about your life hahah. The constructive solution is to get lost so you can end your misery, but I can see you prefer to remain in whatever miserable state you're in and continue to whine. It's fine to be pathetic in your current state, it's inconsiderate that others around you have to bear with your annoying KPKB.

The legislation and nature of the country, are independent of its politics. The judiciary, armed forces and other non political attributes of the government are non-partisan. That's why the judiciary can prosecute a politician. And the armed forces can oust a political party. Even if tomorrow an opposition party overthrows the incumbent, the nature of the country and need for conscription remain the same. You have confused politicking, which is about party politics and running for office and voting, with many non-partisan attributes of the country which include defence, public policy and legislation. If you're smart enough, you'll know what I mean.

It's not too late to get lost although you have already 'lost' those 2 years that you woe and 'believe' to be 'unnecessary'. At least you will not have to do reservist anymore when you leave SG and will perhaps refrain from embarrassing yourself more by defending future 'officer murderers'.
Keep on whining and you, not anyone else, just look stupid not doing anything to remove yourself from your unhappy state! This gem of an advice I give to you out of love. But I'm quite sure you'll opt to remain in status quo. There're personality types that constructively resolve their problems. Its evident which type you belong to. I'm not going to waste my time further after this post with people of your ilk. Have fun stewing in your misery, though I know fun and misery can't logically mix.
This could b a case of serious neglience and it is better to have a press conference to update on the outcome of the investigation since the drive has been detained. If not, there could b wild guesses. I think it is true that NS is a waste of time but the bad thing is local need to serve before being able to migrate to other countries.

Exactly what i said. Since already served and so angry, can go now.
Guys excuse me? Can u guys settle your dispute in other place? The purpose of me creating this thread is to show condolences to the victim. The way u guys are talking is way out of the topic. Please at least show respect.

your entire first paragaph is totally groundless and un-necessary since people who never serve NS before have no right to post such crap. u want us to listen to you, u go serve 2 years of NS in NSF rank-and-file position. then we can talk.
seriously, who are u to tell us what to do? u keep telling people to leave SG? what for? so that more foreigners will replace us locals?
and btw, there's a possibility that the guy is innocent; we never know.
for goodness sake, stop venting your anger on the guys here.
vent it on your hubby. i really pray and hope u two are getting on better terms now.
get real, dude......no man with self-respecting pride would like to be forced into doing something he hates, and furthermore, it's 2 freaking years.
Originally posted by TheMissus:Exactly what i said. Since already served and so angry, can go now.
sorry, pal, but this country wasted away 2 years of my time and if i were to leave now, it wil be all for nothing. that's why i'm staying here to i) tame tigress like the likes of you and ii) watch how Lee Kill You dies

If you are going to support the right of an army to overthrow a political party, well, we can all see where this is going..left field to the realms of fantasy.
Nikar7, if you have a gripe with TheMissus, take it to the PM. We already know what your views on your own behavior in war-time, you don't have to keep on harping about it here. This is a thread for condolences and reflection, not a debate on the ethical foundation of National Service.
Please, everyone here have some respect for the deceased, whether or not you agree with the way things are carried out. It's called human decency not to bicker, flame and quarrel in such a circumstance.
