So private got less than 5k?
They are humans too?
in any army in the world, the rank system is the most priority system....
but i think the payout amount should be more higher than 20 000 for officer rank...
maybe WOSE rank, 20 000 is the minimum lor...
RIP 2LT Chan
Condolence to the parent. Must be very hard since he is the only child.
I sent him off ytd at Mandai...totally couldn't take it when at the viewing gallery his grandma ( i suppose) and other relatives wailing about how he's left his parents and how he died so young.Till now its still ringing at the back of my head...the whole of yesterday night was torture as I kept hearing it.RIP Nick..
land rover????? 1 section of men can lift it right?? why have to wait for 30min?? knn... RIP
A promising young man, now gone.
Sad.
anyone from seletar camp can leak out some info on maybe the investigation process...or at least any updates about the investigation? I heard alot of causes why the landrover reversed and hit the officer...some say there wasn't any wheelchoke, or the handbrake was not pulled...or the landrover could be sent for repairs for faulty brakes...
I also heard that the officer went to the landrover alone, during lunchtime. Yes of all times, during lunchtime...and alone?! Whatever it is, the rumors made it sound as if he was asking for death...

Hey man...let us put it this way,a dead person can't argue back. They can claim a bazillion and one things during their investigation, even if its an SOP fault, they will isse a gag order, and things will just go on.Personally, just my 2 cents...I feel that SAF owe's nick's parents a full account of what happened, the truth,no holds barred.
Lastly, treat every accident however minor as a lesson,do not take near-misses as nothing big for they will grow into something big in time to come.Be safe.
Originally posted by LazerLordz:That's the SOP, but what good is that SOP when the SCDF clearly has the expertise and/or the equipment to extricate people pinned under vehicles.
Sorry, there's procedures, and there's also common sense. Fine , activate the MC, but also call the SCDF ..
Good suggestion but freak accidents like these dont happen all the time and knowing the SAF there has to be more than a few such death before someone at the top decides to issue a directive and rewrite SOPs.

According to my transport spec friend, vehicles are sent to Seletar camp for corrosion protection and not repairs so there shouldn't be problems with the brakes. For a vehicle to roll back, its most likely no wheelchoke was used since if there was a wheelchoke, the vehicle won't be able to roll back that easily and even if it does, there should be ample time to notice and get out of the way.

We do not condone any "leaks" here. Thanks.
So sad. He died at such a young age
Yeah...what we outsiders do is make wild guesses and speculations.Seriously, lets us not add fuel to the fire and see what is shown in the investigation results.

SAF jeep driver arrested
A 19-YEAR-OLD full-time National Serviceman has been arrested in connection with the death of Second Lieutenant Nicholas Chan Wei Kit.
It is believed that he is the driver of the Land Rover that killed 2LT Chan at Seletar Camp last Friday.
The 21-year-old officer was pinned under the vehicle after it rolled backward and hit him while he was inspecting it.
A recovery vehicle was dispatched, though Mindef would not say how long after the incident, to lift the vehicle off him.
But he later died of his injuries in hospital.
Details surrounding 2LT Chan's death remain hazy, such as whether the handbrake had been applied or wheelchocks put in place at the wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving accidentally.
The 19-year-old, who is out on bail, was taken in by the police for causing death through a rash act. He is currently assisting police in the investigations.

Whatever SAF do one young man life is gone, can't they do it within themselves?
Whenever there is a death or crime the police will be involved as long as it is within the borders of singapore be it an SAF camp or on board a vessel at sea.

Soldier you did not die in vain, the sacrificial meaning of warfare, you did the country and your parents proud.
SAF will pay your family $20,000 and a national flag, plus cover the cost of your wake.
Can u use your brains abit?
Wat is 20k confirm to the heartbreak of his family members?
Hell, i dun care if i die with national flag and i also cbf about the cost of the wake.

If it was being reversed, its impossible for the driver not to feel it if he has gone over a person and its abit wierd to go over a person and stop on him.

SAF now finding scapegoat???!!
I don't think SAF will cover up any facts about the vehicle involved was faulty? Makes no sense nor value for them to cover up such facts , if there are any.
For a working car to go into reverse direction to the extent that it pins down a human, it is safe to say that such situation is impossible. Human factor might have been involved.

maybe that guy was merely sitting in the land rover and didn't even touch anything in the jeep? maybe the rover just rolled off the slope itself.
in any case, we can be sure this guy is gonna be screwed badly by MINDEF for "killing" officer.
i feel sad for this 2LT, but i feel even sadder for this guy who got arrested.
suppose he's really innocent, what will happen to his future and family??!?!!
just because he was forced into conscription, he's now also having to eat severe punishment?!
i feel sad for him. i think MINDEF will let him eat at least 5 - 20 years of DB / civilian jail.
