Probably not as much as USMC.
But you must realise that our population is much smaller as compared to the US population at any point of time.
Of course, i supposed we could do a simple caculation of taking percentage of male population....number of intake and estimate the number yrs since it started.
But if we compare the SAF to the USMC long enlistment history.I would say quite a lot also mah!!!

Yes, you are correct.
But NS is mandatory while USMC is made up of purely regulars and volunteers.

SAF, top heavy. Too many Commanders (Planners, Talkers, High-flyers) to little Soldiers (Doers, Man on the Ground). Amazing how a simple job can be complicated through the chain of Commands.
to araphoe;
thye china army is based on the unlucky 5% of populace to ber conscripted from what the china technicians in my ex werkplace told me so not everyone is enlisted...n i think so is the current vietnamese army.
come to think of it i would think that both Vietnam and NK is about on par? 1 million..?

I agree, the military is too focused on commander's rank and pay development rather than improving the quality of the rank and file soldiers.
there are peace time focus and war time focus. Alot got to do with how fast they adapt and adjust according to circumstance. Also i think it got to do with the fact tat we are civilian arm.
I assume that the SAF is applying their skill in afghan, I read from mindef web site they are planning on WLR to Afghan possible 9 months long. So i guess that is the longerest period for more than 6 months.
