I think there's such a thread before, but I can't find it.
For JC guys, do you guys think that after army, you have forgotten a lot of your A level stuff? Seems to me in my memory that quite a number of my friends were worried in the first 2 semesters of uni that they will lose out to the girls fresh out of JC.
Lastly, would a short bridging/refresh course help a lot, say for engineering undergrads to be?
It definietely will take abit of time getting use to studying after 2 yrs of not using ur brains. It would be best to revise your previous work before you start uni to recover all the basics you learnt as well as get your brain back to study mode.
I think a rusty mind affects people from all disciplines. Always spend some time reading in camp, when you are free. It helps to keep the mind active.
Haha... I went overseas to study after NS. Even worse, not only were the girls in my class more current, the boys were as well. This was in the UK. And bear in mind, they are even more current than our Singapore A level cohort, because the UK system finishes their A levels in the summer of the year of entry ( i.e. in May or June of the same year that they enter in September !).
I did Engineering and I suffered because my maths was rusty. Maths you need some practice. The other subjects were easier, as it was a matter of reading , which you also can do during your NS stint. For me, I bought some physics and chemistry books when I was in ROC and read them before ORD. At that time, the bookshops there were printing very cheap publications of Western textbooks.
