SINGAPORE: A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regular serviceman, collapsed Friday morning while taking part in a self-paced 2.4km unit run at the Nee Soon Driclad Centre.
The Defence Ministry said in a statement that Second Warrant Officer (2WO) Lim Kian Hong, collapsed about 1.2km into the run.
The 52-year-old technician was immediately evacuated to the Nee Soon Camp Medical Centre where the doctors tried to resuscitate him.
An SAF doctor and medic continued their attempts to resuscitate the SAF regular serviceman when he sent later to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
2WO Lim was pronounced dead at 9:51am at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
The Ministry of Defence has said it will assist the family of 2WO Lim during and is investigating the incident.

That's bad. Another died of heart failure.
RIP.
Wasted, 3 more years to ROD leh.
think is never do warmup
When will the first people to reach a collapse runner try to resuscitate the runner on the spot?
This is not the first time a runner has collapse.
Why always transport the casualty to hospital for resuscitation?
Typically Singaporean "scared" in case "something happen, how"?
So far in Singapore, only one, a school girl, use CPR, to save a life.
All others get transported to hospital in ambulances.
I think it would be a good idea to have good luck charms in ambulances.
SAF should limit IPPT to a volunteer basis. Or, impose a age limit to take IPPT.
Say... above 35 cannot take IPPT anymore? Or above 35 no need to run 2.4km.
Just my 2 cents worth.
i think they failed to pace themselves properly , leading to their unfortunate demise.
though i agree that the older servicemen should be subjected to less strenuous exercises.
@mancha
CPR and any other resus/treatment procedures are also being done en-route. You think the doctors and medics do nothing but sit in the ambulance and stare at the patient's body?
Still 52yo doing 2.4km run is pushing it imo

the cpr success rate of saving a life is... 2%.
well when u have to go, u have to go. remember that this is not the 1st time this happened, you can say that the WO is old should not take the run, what abt the officer in Khatib that collapsed after the run? He's young and fit yet it happened to him. This type of thing is cannot be prevented, who else know your body condition than yourselves....if you are not ready or not well, don't run.

That the ambulance crew attempt resuscitation is also my expectation, but was it done in the first evacuation in this incident? Or is it a presumption that it was done?
CNA strifes for accuracy, and is at the same time amiable to the government, surely it would not miss the opportunity to make the army look good.
OMG! NOOOOO.....
2WO Lim was my WO during NSF days... 6DSMB/1AMB.... Armament Tech.
Jolly fella who loves to joke alot... and he's bloody fit too for his age.
I knew there was a connection somehow when i read the headlines on yahoo.com.sg....
R.I.P 2WO Lim
RIP.
this kind of things can happen to anyhow. Sudden cardiac death is most of the time undetectable at all. you may look healthy but you never know what is going on in ya body. Unless you go for check up whereby they look at your heart activity, then only you will know if ya are prone to such death.
However, even though the test may indicate you being perfectly alright, but you still have to look at the blood. If your blood volume is too much and too viscous (too much Red blood cells), your heart will work harder too. This is especially true for sports man. Therefore we read about so many fit person dying while running.
Sometimes a strong blow to the chest can also momentarily disrupt the heart activity, leading to erratic pumping and thus leading to death. They are many such ways that these deaths can occur and there is not way to prevent. The most we can do is to go for a heart checkup, do a ECG, and if your are prone to such activity, then exercise less. Other wise just pray and be safe.
Another reason might be Kira is at work....
Rest In Peace, Sir. Your service to our nation will be forgotten.
My deepest condolences to the family of our esteemed serviceman, may Lord hold the departed.
We just lost a good man, a good leader.
RIP Encik Lim
Maybe organisers should take holy waters to spray on the run route or ask priest to come and chant or bai ti gong before event start. :\
Every now and then this kind of thing happen, no wonder some guys who haven't go through army are like becoming ah guas.
RIP.
Hope the number of such cases will decrease.
Each time a soldier dies during service-related activity, there'll sure be some idiots who'll accuse our young soldiers of getting physically weaker and weaker.
But see now, such things could happen to even the older generation of soldiers.
I think it's time to show some respect to our soldiers instead of faulting them and criticising them for their death.
RIP.. :(

Its just the political blame game, someone trying to score points in a mishap or unfortunate incident. And its always the person(s) who do not have personal experience on the subject
i think he didn't collapse while doing IPPT. i think he collapsed while doing some Fitness Program Run. i think they might put a seizure to all these runs @ the moment
RIP 2WO Lim
