Just curious. Will going to the Detention Barrack (DB) leave a criminal record on you, thus affecting your university admission and job application?
Not saying that these offense are minor, but I just find it quite unfair if a soldier is to really accidentally lose his rifle or misfire a live round and end up in DB and leave a criminal record, thus ruining his life forever.
It's not as if he is involved in a fight, killed someone or set fire.
but i think they will record that u went to DB. then will hv some sort of record? i cannot remember.
yes, it will.... but only affect your entry to a local uni............ and i think they wont any how sent ppl to db........... when you miss fire the most they give you SOL, wont db one la.... db is for those serious offences or awol........ and ts talk about losing your rifle, i personally thinks that to losing your rifle is impossible, unless you are sick or unwell....... maybe during outfield training too tired then forgot to take, this one i think if you report it straight to your superior and the rifle is found i think they wont anyhow sent you to db one, but comfirm kanna charge SOL.... cos if they dun sent ppl to db for losing their rifle and the rifle cant be found. i think alot of nsf will bring rifle out when thier gf broke off with them.... lol....... is like that one , rifle is dangerous if lose it also no serious punishment, i think alot of nsf will bring home their rifle
it depends on e offence
like drugs all these dun say la
it is what all my job applications forms all ask only...:
Do you have a criminal record in Singapore?
(By this, we refer only to a criminal record of a conviction under the Registration of Criminals Act)
Have you been convicted in a court of law in Singapore or in any other country (excluding parking offences) ?
SAF record stay SAF. simple. won't effect you in ANY way in Uni admin cause they won't even know and you are not liable to tell them

in tekong misfire only kena confined..but then again recruits are quite immune to most heavy charges..
So if an application form asks 'have you ever been charged in a court of law in Singapore', do you have to say 'yes' if you ever went to DB?
If you have to write down 'yes', then it doesn't matter if your stay in DB leaves a military or a civil record.

u will still state NO
go google on Singapore Civil Laws for the Registration of Criminals Act

maybe you missed the reports some years ago, there were a couple of cases where uni admissions got rejected....though there were others who got it through appeal, depends on severity of crime i assume....
yup.I saw those reports that some people with criminal records were allowed into uni.
if I remember correctly...one was on scholarship from SGX.
If you were charged and sent to DB for more than 7 days, you will have a record.
Forgot to ask the MP in my camp, whether is it SAF or Civil record.

criminal record and SAF detention record is two different thing. nuff said. dun believe what your BMT Encik tell you.
yeap, 7days above is a SAF based record, which is NOT accessible by anyone from the public and not considered for any civil crap unless you are trying to be a Members of Parliment or something
double posted
It will only affect your uni admission, SAF career and civil sector jobs. However, it will only affect if you are charged for DB 10 days and abv. SAF dun anyhow DB ppl. Think about it.. ppl who are DB usually commit very serious offence.. Drugs abusing.. AWOL..
