I am thinking about signing on as a infantry officer, I was one at 2 sir during my nsf and now after uni, i think I would like to make the army my career.
I thot that I could ask any regulars who may be here what their take was on being a professional soldier?
Cheers!

If you want to sign on, it should be because of a genuine cause to serve and not the money.
Full stop.
for honour and glory

Then u will be even more disappointed of the bureaucracy system of SAF and lost motivation for serving.. At this market, sign on seems a better option. It's not easy to get a well paid job now. The market is very bad and worst is yet to come.
If u don't like SAF at least the stable and well-paid money will be the thing for u to fall back on.
I am serious abt it.
I know/hear/seen about the red tape and #%^$*@&^ things inside .. I'm a NSF now lah. :) But even though the money is good, life is also short too~ To waste 6 years of your life doing something just because of the money [ and the current financial downturn is helping -.- ] .. don't really sound that good too me. Oh well, just my opinion though ..
"You must love those you lead before you can be an effective leader,'
he said. 'You can certainly command without that sense of commitment,
but you cannot lead without it. And without leadership, command is a
hollow experience, a vacuum often filled with mistrust and arrogance."
- Gen Eric Shinseki, former Chief of Staff, US Army
A timely reminder for everyone who has people under their command.
