Many will choose to relocate with their spouse leaving sinkapore. We already have an identity problem, further complicated by inter-race-nationality-marriages making our population one big Rojak!

that's rubbish.......NS only makes, in most, a boy physically stronger, but after ORD, he becomes back to square one.and NS does not turn a boy into a man either.
most SG boys are ok until they go to NS where they learn back-stabbing and gossiping.
if anything, i would encourage more people to marry foreigners and encourage these foreigners to settle elsewhere and don't do NS.
if they choose to settle here and let their sons do NS, then they should not cry when war comes, because SAF will mobilize every fit man in SG and we'll be forced to go to war. Against our will.

best advice i can give to those foreigners (ang-mohs etc) is to marry local girl from SG and then take her go overseas and settle.

funny.. coz spain used to have a conscript army too..
lots of nice places like switzerland, finland, denmark.. as well as places like israel, turkey..
thing is this.. you make the best of what you are given with...
if your son goes in there and "learns backstabbing and becomes a terrible person" don't blame the army.. blame your inability and failure as a parent to impart good values...
if you think your precious snowflake son cannot hack something like today's soft stint in the army, your precious snowflake son will probably be totally useless elsewhere too...
frankly, with a "me me me" attitude, i don't think any country will welcome your fickle and disloyal ass as they'll know you'll desert them the moment things get tough...

Just imagine living is Somalia, Iraq, and any of those war conflict areas, you will appreciate what a fine job the armed forces are doing here.
I agree with the "me me me" comment. Too many people are just so concerned about their own well being that its like committing sucide slowly. One day, when we learn our lessons, it will be too late.
I remember that my first lesson during BMT was all about WHY we are there, going thru the BMT. The first question is whether you want to see your mother, wife, sisters or daughters being raped in front of you by the enemies while you watch on helplessly.

this kind of statement is made assuming that one can win the war against enemies.
if you've an army and you lose to enemies, then what's the difference? your mother, wife, sisters or daughters will still get raped in front of you by the enemies while you watch on helplessly.
it's ok to serve in the army, sure, it's about loyalty and patriotism.
it's about 先有国�有家.
however, that applies only to countries which are capable of fighting off invaders, like USA, China, EU countries, India etc.
for SG, where we will lose any war, it is useless to spend time serving in NS since we'll lose anyway if really got war.
so, instead of spending 2 precious years doing these wayang-ing, might as well go overseas.
and if want to serve in overseas conscription, then not so bad, because that country will have a higher chance of winning any war.
for e.g, i do not believe that SG can win a war against Malaysia if we really fight.
or Thailand. or Australia. Or Indonesia. Or.......China.
bottomline?
serve in conscription ONLY if the country you're serving in can win a war.
otherwise, waste of time.

Bottomline, it's still perception that influences conscription experience for the individual.
And yes, I am quietly confident about our ability to win wars and project abroad.

Kind of sad really, this country is just dissolving away. When the children of this land wake up to seeing immigrants taking everything that is the result of their fathers' hardwork.
But cant be blamed when we're having a population crisis. LKY is doing the right bringing all these Cheenas here.

It's precisely because he's a sissy, useless "just 1 non-combatant pes e clerk..." that he has no idea that Singapore can win wars against its potential enemies that it prepares itself for. Not against the US. But it can win the ones that it has prepared for.
This "SAF cannot win wars anyway" rhetoric is said only by useless Pes E sissies in my experience. I've heard 2 other guys say it before, this useless sissy isn't the 1st. And both were Pes E and both chao keng to be Pes E and chao keng in their NS time and were useless fools in their careers also.

I know. just look at how France is still today ridiculed by the British for surrendering before ever putting up a fight for every battle in history, even in sitcoms today LOL. Countries like France and Canada are still subjected to scorn and ridcule 50 yrs after the war. isn't that hilarious? oh that is life. It's called honour and pride. To some guys, they simply don't have it.
