SINGAPORE'S first skydiving simulator on Sentosa meant for thrillseekers could become a training facility for the military.
The company that is building the world's largest vertical wind tunnel - called the iFly Singapore - says it may have a solution for the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) paratroopers to polish their skills more effectively and efficiently.
The six-storey tall (17m) and 5m-wide wind tunnel could more than halve the time spent on parachute training, said the chief executive officer of SkyVenture Singapore, Mr Lawrence Koh, a former military freefaller himself.
its only useful for free falling, not for static line jumps.
liddat also have simulator? cant really practice much i guess... since you cant open the para in there rite?
Hi airforce,
You are right, it's going to be a safe and effecting training area for the CDOs. err... not just the Cdos I guess, been to state recently, it's seen like everyone of different age group is having lots of fun in there...
Hi Man!x,
Is there a need for static line? Do you know there is a canopy flight simulator that can give you a better view(3 D vision)? Well, just in case you not too sure what's static line is? In static line jump, it's all about canopy control and landing.
Hi arball,
Can't practise much? Well... I would said that depend on what you want. In the world, wind tunnel help safe alot of life and make skydiver a better flyer during freefall. As for deploying of parachute in there, you are right, they can't but on the other hand, freefall and canopy control are off 2 different stage in skydiving, freefall stage is the one which alot of skydiver enjoy. Come test it out, you will get what I mean.
Well guys,
sorry if I am too direct to your question post here. But having one here in singapore is going to be lot of fun since we can't have a drop zone in singapore. This will be a cool place to hand out when it's ready.
Reason is simple, I am a skydiver myself, so can't wait for it to be up and ready...
I am no skydiver but as i say It is only useful for military free fallers and civilian skydivers and not static line paratroopers.Anyway its a good thing to have one facility in S'pore. It will be cheaper for S'poreans to take it up as a sport and it might just make our govt relax its stance on using the air space for commercial sky diving.
Wind tunnel in S'pore? Great!!! I used to skydive in the States when i was living there, the tunnel helped me improve in my flying skills. I could practice the stunts in the tunnel safely and at the same time get coaching from the instructor. Actually it gives a different kind of adrenaline rush compared to a skydive. I can't wait to try out the tunnel in S'pore. Must be awesome!!! Any idea how big is the tunnel? The tunnel i tried in Genting was kinda small... two person max. Kinda squeezy. On a rainy day they don't operate.
