Hi friends,
I'm an NSman, noob to the forum here but i've been lurking around and I find this place very informative, as well as (at times) entertaining...anyway i've a few questions for those well-versed in ICT rules, would appreciate some help!
-I might be going overseas next year for approx. 3 years. Are there any circumstances under which I might not successfully be granted disruption? (e.g. IPPT, RT obligations)
-For those who've successfully disrupted, is the process a complicated and time-consuming one? I was from the Navy, btw =)
Thanks in advance!
Get exit permit from CMPB with supported document then send a copy to your unit. Most of the time they'll grant your disruption.
disruption from reservist for a long period of time due to work is almost a guarantee from mindef...unless u defer reservist for short period during high key training....but in ur case sure success one.....but u will have to come back to serve them again when u finish ur overseas work lol
All are extracted from www.ns.sg under the Exit Permit module.
You can apply for an exit permit online.
You are not required to submit any documentary proof for your e-exit permit (e-EP) application unless you are randomly selected by the system. Once your application is approved, you will be given an e-EP number for reference.
Exit Permit requirement for Operationally Ready National Servicemen
If you intend to travel overseas, you are required to apply for an exit permit only if you are traveling and remaining overseas for period of 6 months and longer in a single trip.
If your trip is less than 1 year and you have been scheduled for NS training during the period of overseas trip, you are required to obtain approval from your NS unit before applying for an exit permit.
You are also required to obtain approval from your NS unit if the trip is 1 year or longer and your NS training scheduled within 6 months from the date of application for exit permit. Otherwise, you may apply for exit permit directly through the Internet.
Upon approval of your application, you will be given an eEP number for reference. No hardcopy exit permit will be issued. No documentary proof is required for application of Exit Permit by NSman. Random verification of proof is only required for selected applications.
Disruption from NS for Operationally Ready National Servicemen
An NSman will also be granted disruption of NS if he has been issued with an exit permit which is valid for more than 1 year. Upon disruption, he may not be posed back to his previous unit upon expiry of his disruption. He will also complete his training cycle later than his cohorts.
In addition, an NSman who is an appointment holder will not receive his National Service Command Allowance or Key Appointment Holder Allowance during the period of disruption
You can contact the 24-hour customer service centre at 1800-3676767 (1800-eNSNSNS) or +65 65676767 (from overseas) or email to [email protected] for enquiry on exit permit matters.
Disrupt from Operationally Ready NSmen Training (Going Overseas)
NSmen are required to report for Operationally Ready National Service (ORNS)-reservist training, as scheduled by their National Service Unit. However, under certain circumstances, deferment or disruption from National Service may be granted.
Disruption here refers to 1 year or longer due to overseas commitments.
NSmen can apply for disruption for overseas commitments through their Personnel Management Centres/NSSC/NS Units with the relevant documentary proof. Upon approval, an exit permit will be issued by the Exit Permit Office.
Alternatively, they can also apply for an exit permit at the Exit Permit Office with the relevant documentary proof. Upon approval of the exit permit, their Personnel Management Centres/NSSC/NS units will disrupt them.
Should an NSman been served with a call-up notice, SAF/SPF/SCDF 100, his applications will be first forwarded to the unit for recommendation before an exit permit is issued.
ICT Deferment
Apply for Deferment from In-Camp Training
Apply through www.ns.sg under MyDeferment module.
All applications for deferment from Operationally Ready NS training should be addressed to the respective units and must be supported by the necessary documentary proof. NSmen should submit their deferment application at least 10 weeks before the commencement of the ICT. NSmen may be deferred if their applications meet the MINDEF/SPF/SCDF guidelines.
An appeal against a rejected deferment application should be addressed to the unit CO for re-consideration. Where the unit CO does not support the appeal for deferment, the appeal could be submitted to the higher HQ for review, thereby ensuring that the appeal is being considered by a higher authority.
You may obtain an application form from:
MINDEF:
NS units; SAFRA; National Service Association Clubhouse; NSPC for Army; NSmen; AFNSB for Air Force NSmen; NNSB for Navy NSmen.
SPF/SCDF:
NS units
An NSman who is granted deferment will have to undergo make-up training for the deferred period within the same work year. MINDEF, SPF and SCDF do not encourage deferment as it affects the unit's training as well as the unit's cohesiveness. NSmen are given 6 to 12 months notice for their ICT. The advance notice is to give them sufficient time to make the necessary adjustments to their work commitments so that they could attend to their NS duties as scheduled.
3 years of stay is just nice for qualifying australia citizenship. emigrating too?
first need to make sure your NS is with NSPC, there you will have no unit. thus no training
if you have unit, you need to clear IPPT as usual, need ICT also SAF 100 will still be serve to your house address,
only excuse MOB, cause your name not in unit nomial roll any more, due to you already apply exit permit, or even if you make information of oversea trip notification.
during MOB activation, area IC will still call you inform of activation, but if you call back unit NSHR, they will inform you if you need to report back, usually area IC list & NSHR list updated version not same.
best is to serve together with same buddy, for 10 cycle
if not make up training all new buddy, need more time ice breaking
Hi guys,
I have a qns of my own regarding overseas work trip and ICT.
As far as i know, I have to travel overseas around Dec 2009 for 3 wks. I heard from my unit that our ICT would be held around Dec 2009 too.
I understand that I have to submit my deferment application 10 wks before my ICT.
However, in the event that I do not know whether my overseas trip would clash with my ICT till (say) 5 wks before my ICT, will I still be able to defer my ICT?
Thanks!

Usually u should received the notice by now....but if u have not got it...most likely you'll not have ICT in Dec.........
ya u will get it... cos i got mine too... got RT and IPPT hanging over my head that time.. but still got it..v
Hey guys thanks for the rapid responses, esp. to eac for your cut-and-paste job. To fishbuff : i'm actually heading to new zealand to pursue a phd degree, and would certainly not rule out the eventual possibility of settling down there. Job mkt in SG not tt big for my field...
I'm concerned abt my disruption cos i happen to be an officer, so dunno if the requirement would be more stringent. And i've been going to the gym in case i fail my IPPT and somehow tt becomes an issue. Haha.
welll what if you are overseas for more than 3 years, and u wish to come back to singapore when u are like 40 or 50, do u still have to do your reservist upon returning?
just get the exit permit ....
but if you're being employed, it's likely that they'll require some form of documentary proof from your employer ....
when I changed the reason for my exit permit from overseas studies to overseas work, they asked for documentary proof from my com's HR as well .....
and if your status changes midway, remember to inform CMPB ....
