honestly speaking i dont think anybody who would want to go to sispec when in BMT. they all trying their best for ocs. in NS its either be a man or officer. not sandwiched in between as a sgt.

Imagine commanding such a high salary as a WO, suddenly your pay drop to that of a junior commisioned officer, so seldom will have WO who will choose that path la..
and yea, i heard the hearsay abt the SISPEC then OCS path so that's y i was mentioning it.. maybe TS heard the same hearsay too so that's y he's asking?
WO covert to commissioned officers will be min CPT and not 2LT.

if i am not wrong, its like a MWO offered the opportunity to be converted to a CPT.

No choice in SG about the short training term for officers. It's the parents that are complaining waste of time in NS, plus our young men who do not see the importance of NS.
Anyway, if I recalled correctly, it'll take 2 years in Officers' School (westpoint) in US to become officers. I think some armies in Europe required the cadets to have serve for at least 3-5 years before being recommended into Officer School, for another 2-3 years.

I think most CPT's pay not higher than WO1. Plus WOs have their yearly increament and some allowances...but with the new ranking system, I'm not too sure already
Does anybody know of any living example or still in-service example of Officers who were WOs?
There are so many rumours of Officers who were WOs but yet we dunno who they are.
The confirmed cases I know are the pre-1992 era (when ranks were PTE > CPL > SGT > SSG > MSG > WO.
Back then WO ranks and responsibilities were different and SAF gotta implement the CPL > 3SG > 2SG > 1SG > SSG > MSG > 2WO > 1WO > MWO >SWO.
The new rank system is more for recognising effort and seniority and easing payscale. During the transitions I guess WO are offered Officer ranks to be better recognised that having to go thru the 2WO > 1WO > MWO > SWO rank structure.
As of recent cases, rumours of WOs becoming officers are plenty. But upon some investigation, I found out that some cases, the WOs are given Officer Appointments but stil maintain WO ranks. Loosely, MWO & SWO are usually given CPT & MAJ appointments. Such are cases found in training schools, SIW especially where Course Commander is usually a MWO.
Please do not be confused with SISPEC's (2/1WO = PC, 1/MWO = OC). This system was around since 90s.
But what i was refering is in cases where they can't find an appropriate Officer to fill a "vacancy" they will use a WO to fill it up.
IIRC, 'Tiger' Hong Seng Mak is one such WO who converted to rank of CPT. Of course long long ago lah.
if tiger hong still living now how old is he now? :D.....we sure can hear a lot of granpa kinda stories ard...
But most of the cases tt you all brought up are people who are already gonna ORD leh, my case is more of failing one of the selection tests so abit different. i assume those who are gonna ORD did not fail their interview with their 1st attempt so tt's y they are not required to be officers. my case is veri different as i'm told by the RO to get into OCS in order to have any chance of being a pilot again. i'm wondering whether i can reapply regardless of whether i get into OCS as i'm afraid i'll b selected by CDO sia. then got this admin guy at the AFRC say if u got into CDO then juz finish the course 1st and write a letter with ur reapplication. i'm also confused by wat CDO course he's toking abt coz i was quite sad after the interview and didnt bother to find out more...
If you are skilled in small-unit leadership and direct action, this experience is valuable when you convert to an officer and are more able to understand the limitations of your platoon's strengths and weaknesses in battle.
What's wrong with having SISPEC graduates going on to OCS? Nothing.
Those officers who think that this path is unglorious, should really reassess their words and understand that experience at different levels contribute to a larger nexus of command potential and ability.
yeah true. i believe you will learn valuable lessons in SISPEC which are not taught in OCS. if i wana get into CDO OCS, tt'll be a dream la. the intake is too small la. anyway u all know any cases of commandos applying for pilot and got thru? i mean got thru as in they apply after they finish their cdo course...
Err i know of 1.Was a former RSM of my unit then he convert to CPT and retired as a MAJ(S3) in my unit.He came back to ORD.And he told me who he was.Cuz i was new an was asking him who he was hah.
from tekong can go to either sispec or ocs, den at sispec the top 10% from bslc can cross over to ocs
