What to do? fail pilot interview means have to wait a long period of time liao. its like such a short affair and i can actually fail it when i heard the failure rate of interviews are quite low. damn it la! wasting time again, shud i gif them a call to know more abt my current situation?
It wouldnt hurt calling them up to confirm your doubts. After all the information they can render you with are far more reliable then what this forum mates can.
Also, theres really not much time wasted, I don't see the difference between the two, its either you get signed now, or after your BMT. Do note that those who get signed now do not mean that they go for air-grading immediately after their BMT. Of course thats the ideal arrangement, but do keep in mind the schedule conflicts that might occur in their system.
yeah true. lots of waiting time and admin stuff to be sorted out too.
i feel that there will be a little time wasted if everything goes smoothly coz if i get the chance to go for a 2nd attempt on interview plus the medical, everything will take damn slow to process my reapplication. i may reapply if i get into OCS and they may take at least 1 mth to ask me for another interview if possible. if hopefully i pass with the 2nd attempt, the medical results will be out earliest by 2.5 mths. so i definitely see a little loss of time though i cant reali gauge the amount lost...
You will be serving OCS by then should you qualify for the second interview. Since serving the OCS is a must for pilots, wheres the time wasted?
Its time to get the facts right. Call the RO.
To be more straightforward, imo, by the end of the day, the only difference between getting signed now or later, is that you will feel better if your signed now. Probably, everyone will feel the same (putting the consideration of salaries aside).
true. i seriously hope there's no time wasted. the only thing i'm gonna stress over is how i'm gonna perform for the next interview if i ever get it. hey vincent, u r currently waiting for your pilot interview izit? u were at which poly?
Yeah. Ngee Ann.

ahh... yeah! flying is very fun! but being a military pilot is totally different! ask urself will u be able to take the office politics, playing of ranks n seniority, strict regimentation n being on standby wif disruption to ur life? sign on if ur ans is yes.
anyway, 1 advice for u, if u managed to get into OCS, apply asap when once u get in during common term, otherwise they will not be able to release u to air force once u commence on ur training. oh yah, if u r in commando, then it's different liao, i dunno wat's the SOP of handling pilot trainees for commando cadets in OCS but i do noe abt infantry (personal experience). once u get ur 2nd white bar, u have to finish ur whole OCS training b4 going over to air wing. however, if u managed to secure a place in air force when u r in common term, then u will be going over to air wing to get ur 2nd bar.
the above r my own personal experience in 2004, the way i got into air force was rather different due to administrative lapse, i applied b4 BMT, then completed BMT, SISPEC BSLC, SISPEC ASLC n was recommended to go to OCS as an infantry cadet but i rejected it cos i noe i will be going over to air force n didnt want to waste time in OCS. so i went over to air force sch only after completing my SISPEC ASLC n i was already into the 10th month of my national service back then.
a typical career path for a pilot trainee will be... BMT --> Air Force Sch --> Airgrading
mine was... BMT --> SISPEC BSLC --> SISPEC ASLC --> Lobo for 1 mth --> Air Force Sch
hmm... btw, care to shed more light on ur interview? interested to noe how come u failed ur interview. i rem i screwed up my interview, cos i was rather low profile during my sec sch n poly days n they said they were looking for outstanding characters so i told them honestly i wasnt outstanding at all. at the end of the interview, i tot i failed but the person-in-charge told me i got thru!

if im nt wrong, CDO is only possible to join if dey drafted you there, u cant sign on unless you were frm the mono intake right?
if not i would have signed on to the CDOs
but Infantry is as good, just that i dont know can be ranger or nt

You can't apply to be a commando. CDO and NDU only recruits through mono-intake, no VA letter - no chance, period.
Remember, CMPB hotline is your friend.

you try going to www.armycareers.gov.sg den u click 'apply now'. see got commando option anot. if you are signing on, you can choose where to go. the only thing is tt you are subjected to whether they want u or not. if you are juz nsf-ing, you can't. and infantry officers can convert to cdo officers, but they haf to go thru some shit 1st. CMPB hotline is nth if you wanna sign on. the force of your choice has a recruitment centre of its own. you shld call that number to enquire. NDU also can apply. Navy website got such an application. if not...how do they maintain regulars? ppl who wanna join doesn't necessarily get VA-ed do they? like SAF can read ppls' mind. i noe alot of fit guys from dragonboat who are into ndu/cdo, but they didnt get VA-ed...so how? cannot fulfil their dream of serving the nation as a regular in a path dreaded by many? the SAF will surely welcome them with open arms, no point closing the door on such ppl especially when they are mentally prepared and physically fit. no many ppl who do their nsf in cdo/ndu will stay on as regular you noe? so where we get regulars...thru ppl who apply for it. besides what cdo regulars do are very different from nsf cdos.

You call cmpb, you get directed to the relevant departments who are in the best position to attend to your queries.
And, Oh, if anyone happens to become a regular commando through the saf application page, may be he can share his experience with this forum.
Because after few enquries, the answer below is what I've got
: NSmen can only join the commandos through mono-intake, you can not apply to become a commando for your NS.
: You can not sign on to become a commando regular during your NS days, if you have not been chosen for the mono-intake.
: Those who have completed their NS liability may apply to become a commando, then. "Case by case".
Go on, correct me if my information are horribly wrong.
Go OCS lar. If you are good, you will definitely make it.
hey tetsu, i got seriously bombarded by them la. i juz found out i said sumtink wrongly leh. blardy hell! they ask mi abt my yfc experience and y i didnt go for 1st solo since i made it into phase 2. actually was coz of my poor performance on the last sortie then i said coz of external factors like weather which was actually reasons for the sorties before my last 1. i was confused and mixed it up and tot i was telling the truth when in fact i'm actually lying unknowningly. tt's y they tot i was lying and the colonel juz said to mi,"are you sure? we are looking for honest officers..." once i heard this, i knew i screwed my interview liao. the truth abt the interview is tt be as honest as possible, they reali dun care how outstanding you are, they believe honesty is the best policy!
u got any advice and tips of me never mind abt your interview being in 2004?

TAKE CARE ALL, WILL BE BACK SOON
Up in the morning, outta the rack
Greeted at dawn with an early attack
First Sergeant rushes me off to chow
But I dont need it anyhow
Hail O' Hail O' Infantry
Queen of battle follow me
An airborne rangers life for me
O' nothing in this world is free
From a big bird in the sky
All will jump and some will die
Off to battle we will go
To live or die, hell I dont know
Hail O' Hail O' Infantry
Queen of battle follow me
An airborne rangers life for me
O' nothing in this world is free
Early at night its drizzilin' rain
I am hit and feel no pain
But in my heart I have no fear
Because my ranger God is here
Hail O' Hail O' Infantry
Queen of battle follow me
An airborne rangers life for me
O' nothing in this world is free
The mortars and artillery
The screaming bursts around me
Jagged shrapnel on the fly
Kills my buddy, makes me cry
Hail O' Hail O' Infantry
Queen of battle follow me
An airborne rangers life for me
O' nothing in this world is free
One, Two, Three, Your Left!
Hoo ah!
One, Two, Three, Four!
AIRBORNE!
