I'm recently just graduated from SP. Applied for Pilot and WSO(UAV) positions on 19 Nov 2007. Completed my COMPASS on 14 Dec 2007 and currently waiting for interview. Anyone else applied for this positions too? Looking for buddies here who are applying for it too. Can suffer the long wait together.
The wait seems to be seriously long.
Hope to get replies soon. Thanks.
hey del_co, i'm also a graduating diploma student from SP. i recently called CMPB and asked them about the outcome of my COMPASS test which i have luckily passed! also currently awaiting their call for my interview next.but i'm only interested in the pilot vocation, unlike you. i also went for commando VA on 19th feb 2008 leh. told the encik i would prefer pilot training to commando training. regarding your question about WSO (UAV), i tink all if not most of the air force vocations are eligible to anyone with an A level cert, diploma or degree so dont worry about it. anyway when you took ur COMPASS test?? i took mine on 15th nov 2007. r u a former SYFC member???
yeah man! SYFC. took compass and passed. took on 14 dec 07. lol! commando VA 19 feb 08. What's ur email addy man? maybe can chat online. at least got fellow ppl waiting ard with me. lol!
lol! sure man! hey wats ur email add though? you are in which SYFC batch? i'm in course 139... anyway how's your commando VA? did the encik hint to you about anything which u feel he had selected you for commando training? my interview was damn short!like less than 1 min...he juz ask me abt my interest in commandos and my medical history...hope he dont choose me anyway...
i was in 123 batch. i was from JC then went to poly after 2 years. haha! well i was interviewed by a captain. mine was quite fast too, but i rmb it was like 2 mins odd? i wasn't the least interested. showed no interest at all...told him i'd rather go infantry. haha!
haha! seems like both of us are only pinning our hopes on being a pilot in RSAF! anyway did u achieved ur PPL or 1st solo? I only reached sortie 20 w/o achieving 1st solo all thanks to the weird instructor Chua B S. Seldom get to fly with my instructor A Liew. you got any friends who are currently pilot trainees in air force or commercial airlines??
did my 1st solo then got kicked out cuz of my studies (failed promo exams) and my flying wasn't good enough for anything more. had some problems with RT cuz the lady's voice too sexy. haha! yeah i haf a friend who is in RSAF now. got his wings already and he is waiting to go somewhere to learn how to fly either an f-5 or 16. commercial airlines...aspiring friends, i have...full-time ones, i don't. anyway, i heard with SYFC backgrd, it will be quite a little bit of advantage. so sit tight man...and pray medical won't hold us back. cuz it may just be the only thing. anyway, we both might haf to do our bmt with the cdo and pray to god the rsaf will act quick. zzz...and also...i really haf no idea what would happen man. if i dun go OCS from tekong...won't it be weird? what if i wanna apply for other vocations? i'm confused. i was told a recommendation from the unit is needed. but i'm not sure what that means. recommend what? who recommend?
please go to SIA.
but why? my passion is in military flying.
I'm about to start my diploma in aerospace in sp in april. Like the both of you, I really want to take your route to becoming a pilot. Mind adding me to msn in case if I wanna ask for advices and your experiences ? Especially about SYFC. My email is [email protected]
hey del_co, i know your problem with the RT. I used to have tt problem too at first, freaking hard to multi-task though! Anyway u made the right decision to join air force.i tink SIA is only the last resort if touch wood cannot get into air force. i would rather b a fighter pilot than being a commercial pilot. But tts not to say SIA easy to get in. Its as stringent if not more than air force in their selection process. Your friend damn zai leh. I tink he will confirm b a fighter pilot with regards to his current position in air force. I tink regarding the OCS issue, you must be very garang and chiong sua type during bmt. always show or tell your sergeant or PC that you are freaking interested in being an officer. Plus if i tink they know you are selected for pilot training, maybe will try their their best to recommend you for OCS. Thats the case if you are posted to tekong, its not tt easy to be posted to OCS in cdo unless you are the damn fit and garang type. I guess chances for everyone to get into OCS is higher in tekong than in hendon. Anyway are you bespectacled??
Why do you want to be a wso in a UAV? Wrong choice, like Kopi said, SIA.
Btw, some pilots waste alot of time just waiting for their training to start.

yeah, and there are military aircraft enthusiasts in here who "believed" the bullcrap dished out by the writeups and advertisements.
seriously, join SIA.
i haven't seen pilot who doesn't want to go to SIA.
unless you're a scholar.

LTC Phillip Chiong leh?
Hahaha but yeah true, many of the pilots i met told me they will leave the force to join commercial airlines once their bond is over.

Btw, i didn't know scholars become pilots, i thought they all end up as wing commanders at least.
why wrong choice for uav? well for me military flying has nth to do with those ads. i haf always been interested in jet planes and the military. so thus its the natural choice. but of cuz i will go to sia when i retire. why uav? its the next flying thing after piloting. i can say its a passion i had since i was 9. started reading tom clancy's fighter wing at 11. lol.
You do know what you will be doing as a WSO in a UAV right?
Originally posted by stellazio:You do know what you will be doing as a WSO in a UAV right?
yup. flying the UAV right?
If you're a WSO, i don't think you'll be flying at all. Pilot yes you fly, but are you sure you can select your type of craft? There're so many crafts from F5 to C130 to F16 etc and even choppers.
The RSAF website states tt UAV officers will fly it. And yes I understand that as an RSAF pilot I am not allowed to choose the aircraft of my choice. Fighter, rotors or transport...it's a gift to be in the air flying and upholding our independence. It is a passion man! Almost a love...but den its a sensitive issue. I must only maintain the word "love" for one person...my gf. If not....die. haha!
if your gf gets jealous just due to that statement above..
that's not love then..
btw..it's a tough process to the graduation as a fighter pilot..
2 yrs training..
tough nut leh.
yeah i know. i believe it's worth it if you really love it. at least i won't regret something in my life.
Yes, love for flying, aviation, military aviation..
No one can understand my love for aviation. Hell, I even got an unofficial record with the police for my passion.
I was like you once. Damn garang, applied various positions in the airforce. During BMT, I realised how this organisation functions and understand the shit and regimentation and decided this kinda life isn't for me. I gave up my applications and served my 1 year 10 months and F off. How glad that I made that decision.
You gotta be in the organisation to see and feel yourself the shit and regimentation and ask yourself if this is really what you want.
UAV stands for unmanned aerial vehicle right? I really don't know how much flying is there in it.
