i believe what only applies to Naval or RSAF (less ADA specs)Originally posted by stellazio:i think no need to complete sispec.
cuz from what i know, regulars when they sign on, they're auto corporals.
and when their course finish, they get their 3sg ranks.
Yup! But COM doesn't seem to count for much these days leh. I look at the job ads, all want minimum 3 years working experience. Those that don't need experience are like Help Desk and support. Can't get to work on projects or anything without at least 3 years exp.Originally posted by sir sickolot II:wasted Leh your COM... why don't you try pte sector?
in any case i think officer might be quite hard to get, cause you have done NS and i assume it was not a commander appointment?
No SOC. No need BMT.Originally posted by Shotgun:Anyone from the Navy can enlighten me a bit on this vocation?
I'm a Dip. Infocomms Technology holder, likely to be Cert. of Merit holder as well. Looking for an entry level job, and saw the Navy advert.
I'm 26 yo n completed NS.
Already familiar with Sonar / Radar / Navigation systems operations already. Learning what to do won't be an issue. I'm more keen to find out about the lesser known details about this job.
Any SOC, IPPT, etc. How many months have to spend o'seas a year on the average? Do I need to go through sispec? And is being a good swimmer really necessary? ( I mean, man built boats for a reason...)
Thanks in advance!
Wah, that bad meh?Originally posted by SBS3625D:No SOC. No need BMT.
And......as nvl cbt sys spec, you can't choose your vocation.
Less known facts about this job? Let's just say being a spec is hardly as glamorous as it sounds. You would be better known as a seaman.
No SISPEC. But there's a Petty Officer Course, which is its equivalent.
My advice to you, don't sign-on, you're a bit too old and I'm not kidding. At 26 most would be 1st sgts or even staff sgts and a couple of years more, no more all those streneous work. You? At 26 go and do all those things? Must 30+ then can start to relax, not worth it lah...
Just my opinion. AND lastly, don't, never be swayed by those ads. Find out carefully before taking the plunge. Life on a ship is hardly like that of a cruise ship. And watching action movies is completely different from being part of the action movie. And more importantly, an action movie lasts only 3hrs max, your movie lasts days at least, and weeks in an excercise.
It is precisely these things that are causing most regulars to regret their decision.
how ignorantOriginally posted by caleb_chiang:Any specialist in the military had to go through SISPEC...
Doubt me?Originally posted by caleb_chiang:Any specialist in the military had to go through SISPEC...
there're many non combat specialist vocations.Originally posted by caleb_chiang:Any specialist in the military had to go through SISPEC...
That's very untrue and unfair. Of course the navy has to sell itself. And just because you don't want to join does not mean EVERYBODY does not want to.Originally posted by Resentment:don't sign on , they sent me mails to sign on for navy even before i went for my ns , i am 17 now btw. and they try to propaganda me , anyway i still waiting for my letter , pls don't sel your soul to SAF. you gonna regret.
SAF will always have a manpower shortage. Many people leave the service because they can't tahan regimentation, or have been marching on the spot for quite some years (probably due to a royal screw up). And being part of the Civil Service, its promotion rate is determined by the level of education recieved and whether the soldier is a scholar or not.Originally posted by mhcampboy:i think I remembered somewhere.... Navy had an ad in a job searching website...
How come like tat?.. SAF suppose to be a sacred instituition u know...
