hello, just wondering here, does sms allow for disruption of ns during ocs for overseas studies like the case of psc?

yes SMS does allow disruption, but if i'm not wrong it's one year later, meaning one year after the PSC and SAFOS scholars. Most SMS scholars, again i'm not entirely sure, commission before they go overseas. But it's still one year matriculation earlier than the rest of the males who go thru 2 yrs NS.

There are two different times that an army officer/cadet qualifies for the SMS award. The first is when he is in OCS, and he may be awarded SMS for good academic performance as well as good leadership qualities during BMT/OCS. The SMS scholars in this period will disrupt in the same year, just as with the PSC scholars. This is to help put the army on 'equal' standing with the civil service and make the scholarship more 'attractive'.
The second period would be during the PC tour as an NSF, if the officer shows outstanding leadership qualities, and had a satisfactory academic result, he may be recommended for the SMS by his OC/CO, then he would go off for studies in that year i.e. One year after his batch of PSC Scholars leave for studies.
