He was CO in my unit, during our time in time in NS. He went back to commando HQ after that (end 92).Originally posted by Gedanken:I didn't see much of him - I believe he was in formation HQ by the time I got to the battalion. I think Ninja knows him reasonably well, though.
Nope Ged - I was from 1st Guards at that time.Originally posted by Gedanken:My memory must be failing me, bcoy - were you from CDO?
Yeap - that's him, an officer and gentlemen. I would rather have him as my CO on the battlefield, than the scholars we see these days.Originally posted by Short Ninja:I know Eric Khoo very well I dont know when he got his German wing but when I knew him he was an officer and a gentleman only problem is that he needed some push for his fitness because of his size, that was during his Ranger course.Very Intelligent and cool. You can trust guys like him in a battle field.
When you were in 1st Gds was Enchik Rama there also? And who was the RSM at that time?Originally posted by bcoy:Yeap - that's him, an officer and gentlemen. I would rather have him as my CO on the battlefield, than the scholars we see these days.
Besides the German wings, there a crest I've seen, an eagle with leaves around it - very German like badge.
who's this general? i got someone in mind but he retired alreadyOriginally posted by Short Ninja:Some officers from Guards converted to Commando,In the old days they shared the same coversion course.I remember one good Guards 0fficer who became a friend but we lost contact eversince. He is now a General,if you knew him you would agree that his personaliy was like Lt WInters from the 'Band of Brothers. These rare soldiers you can trust because they would put their life on the line for you first. As for German wings, there only a handful with those in the early 80s and GED knows Noel Chia too.Another good officer and a Gentleman
Your retired General from armor?Originally posted by Unknown_X:who's this general? i got someone in mind but he retired already
someone brought up COL Noel Chia. I don't know him well, fact is i've only met him once... but he seems to be like a very nice gentleman, a very fitting commander for the commando formation. a pity due to circumstances he had to step down.Originally posted by Short Ninja:Some officers from Guards converted to Commando,In the old days they shared the same coversion course.I remember one good Guards 0fficer who became a friend but we lost contact eversince.
An officer and a gentleman who is very down to earth if you know him.He could have done even better in the civil sector.Originally posted by sir sickolot II:someone brought up COL Noel Chia. My civilian job brought me into contact with him for the first and last time.... somewhere in the middle-east and just before the drowning incident.Originally posted by Short Ninja:An officer and a gentleman who is very down to earth if you know him.He could have done even better in the civil sector.
He was the former Chief Guards officer who led the Operation Flying Eagle in Indonesia during tusamin outbreak.Originally posted by Short Ninja:Goh Kee Nguan
Another good Officer and a Gentlemen who cares for the welfare of his men.He never believe in putting someone on charge unless he really has no choice.A leader who lead by example.Originally posted by will4:He was the former Chief Guards officer who led the Operation Flying Eagle in Indonesia during tusamin outbreak.

When I met him, he had just been visiting the Jordanian special forces. My first and lasting impression of him, is exactly as the comments here in the forum. Good chap.
I thought he would go places and was counting on it... but then several months later, the drowning incident happened.
Life is unpredictable....
That 's good. It means a "cooling off" period for him. Take him out of the public eye. He , himself, is given a refreshing change.Originally posted by Unknown_X:he's now something like millitary attache to new zealand. my fren who just came back from an exchange program for ocs told me that. fresh from the oven, cuz my fren just came back yday.

But I think his military career is over. Next job is either civil service or GLC executive.
some ppl dun really have a choice. or maybe it's his passion.Originally posted by Short Ninja:The real waste of talent was when he joined the army.As I knew him he could have done better as a civilian.
Its the signing of the bond. For most it didnt start with a passion until later.Originally posted by Unknown_X:some ppl dun really have a choice. or maybe it's his passion.
Or in my case, it was an objective to go overseas to study and be away from my parents. I was very tempted to sign on for the SAF scholarship when I was doing my A levels. To go overseas and study, maybe attend Sandhurst or some foreign military academy.....Originally posted by Unknown_X:some ppl dun really have a choice. or maybe it's his passion.
