don't think the blame can be put entirely on the cooks.
perhaps it's SFI policy?
besides, they're just doing their job, and i doubt they're paid well enough to give a damn about what they cook. -

i do agree that SFI foods is unhealthy most of the times but sometimes those 'unhealthy' food tastes not bad.........
during my NSF days in kranji camp, I have 'experienced' special meals nasi padang, nasi briyani, nasi lemak, western meals, pasta, laksa, prawn mee etc and apart from the laksa and pasta, others are considered acceptable......
and i do agree that apart from western and pasta meals, $S5.50 per meal is damn to ex........
a also wonder how much does SAF paid SFI for night snacks......... during my days the worst i can get is 2 bread spread with butter n kaya....... -

Different camps serve different food, different variety, different standards, different nutrition value, different amount of effort put into cooking etc etc... So you cant blame the entire SAF just becos your camp food sucks...
I had 2 whole years of sucky food before my camp changed the cookhouse vendor... My meals for the last 3-4 months were simply wonderful...
Actually things have been slowly improving... You're considered lucky that you are in army now and not years ago.. I think you're just a spoilt brat or some non-combat soldier who got nothing to do everyday but sit there and think of things to complain...
If you get the camp to select soldiers to become cooks in the cookhouse, i can guarantee you that you get more shitty food... Just ask your dad or your uncles... Few years back, out-ration was packed in styrofoam boxes, which they said tht it's toxic (but i took them for 2 years), now they changed it to cardboard boxes liao... Now, the NS allowance has increased by so much! But service time also reduced by so much! Also, only 5 days week! What the freak! You are already enjoying better NS life, so just try to live with it... NS life will get better slowly and slowly... You can complain, but let me tell you that your experience is definitely not the worse... Just ask the pioneers... -

Unlike the typical Singaporean who eats what suits his palate, the threadstarter is eating as a means of healthy living.

IMO, SFI has a very important responsibility of supplying trusted food to the SAF. SAF shldnt allow any other caterers to supply food for security reasons. -

Steam, blanch, poach etc. Add natural herbs for the flavor. -

lets see typical meals at my place. Breakfast manily are 1 (Baos n kuehs), 2(Fired beehon/mee thats very oily), 3 (Thawed parata with super oily curry),4(Chee chiong fun)..etc
Lunch n DInner . Every week will have ~2-3times friend kuay teow/mee with fried chicken wing, patties. ~1 time mee goreng with again fried chicken wing. ~2 times nasi lemak with fried chicken wing or fish (thats 3/4 flour).
rest are just rice n vege n meats n most of time meats are fried..
As u can see complete unnutritous. Almost everyday garanteed will have fired stuff. N i m complaining about the taste yet

True.Nutrition should be first over taste.Bland food helps to toughen you up.And 5 days is a more efficient use of time,speaking as a person who's gone through it.
Of course, they should stick to 5.5 days for high-key training such as during BMT and the initial phases of SISPEC and OCS.There is no need for 5.5 days in a combat unit unless there is a major excercise coming up,or some form of logistics or ops audit.
Another option is to switch entirely to Indian vegetarian or Muslim food.I found it a lot more tasty and healthier than the stuff served at the Chinese food cookhouse.
Muslim food and indian vegetarian food beats Chinese food in the SAF anyday. -

Why serve us colored sugar water? Milk or soya milk would be so much better. Anytime, anyday. -
What are you complaning about? What if a company of unknown and untrusted origins wins the tender to supply food to SAF? What if the company was own by an entity that wanted to sabotage SAF?
