the soul the soul, the mind is the mind. The soul refers to something that is eternally unchanging and something existing on its own and separate from the body. This soul does not exist.

Any questions can come to the buddhism board to ask, I'm bad at buddhism and we have many experts there. (the more people ask questions the more fun!)
what is the mind made up of? thoughts make up the mind. do animals have thoughts? yes.
What is an Illusion? In your perspective, Doesn't it make Everyone Existence including you & me a Illusion...ha ha ha Well Everyone has sense of Self without denial...Originally posted by Suicine:animals have a sense of self. therefore they have a soul. (which is an illusion)

there, they have the very subtle mind in buddhism too.
the 7th consciousness out of the 8 is the "soul". it is however something that buddhists would aim to realize as an delusion because thats what it is in ultimate reality. "we" are in fact everchanging entities. our sense of "I" or "me" is simply a sense belonging to the ever-changing entity that is us, our body, and mind. this in essence is the buddhist principle of anatta (Pâli; Sanskrit: anâtman). there is no "I". the "I" is different every moment.
Arahants have gotten rid of the false sense of self (soul or 7th consciousness) and the 3 poisons, therefore they have no more sufferings.
when i say i am bad at buddhism, it means that i havent been reading up a lot on the academic knowledges of buddhism. that doesnt mean that i wont do that later though. so what i am typing out here is from my meagre knowledge of buddhism i picked up.

Originally posted by Suicine:I shouldnt have added the bolded part in there. "existing on its own" means something that isnt affected by anything at all, and is eternally unchanging, not empty of inherent existence.
