yes it may exert your lower back muscles, but only if you ride above the walk pace, like trotting or cantering.
moonice, if you've always liked to ride, just go lah! go hacking(jungle trail) or watever which doesn't require too much exertion. -

Me doing the canter. Check out the muscles of the hindlegs, pure power man... Notice the riding boots? It's leather and costs over $400. Of course not mine lah, though I look good in it, I think. lol.
