The total equipment weighs a whopping 18kg, including the jacket lagging blah blah. Add that to the fire hoses we had to transport, coil and uncoil, we all almost die. Lucky the course only 3 days, civil defence folks have to undergo physical training with the face mask and tank, which alone weighs 12.6kg.All these while we faced the Choa Chu Kang cemetry.
Wearing the stuff is so complicated, preparation takes 10 min. And to compound problems to that, all of us had headaches from the pressure of the air tank. So it was hell for 3 days. We had to put out huge fires that surround us and scorch the hell outta us, move and even crawl in the dark. The extra weight gave me bruises on my knee when I leopard crawled in small tunnels, and I was consuming air from my tank like nobody's business......
Bleah.....imagine my relief when I got my certificate.![]()

That a fire does not as what we normally think, spread physically. Fire spreads by conduction, convection and radiation. I was given a taste of that when we burned down the container. We started a small fire and in less than 5min with us still stuck inside, even the air ignited.Fires started all around us and we had to make a hasty retreat before we die. Of course we started the huge fire to train and put out, which was a scorching experience. At least for my comrades before me.
When I entered the container to put out the "big" fire, it had been sprayed with water so often it became joss-paper fire.
Kinda, and I'm fairly well-paid for that.Originally posted by meltz:yr ns seem fun![]()
