  my friend has just called the Red Cross Society to check, was told they have not opened any 1900 line for the donations.. currently they are only accepting 3 methods of donations i.e. through cheque, cash and dbs internet banking.. the line 1900 9111110 mentioned is unverified.

  No, actually many organisations are scrambling to help at the same time.
  That's why the confusion. But its better to wait for the official numbers to be listed in the papers before doing anything.
