Hi all,
True noob here! just started on Gundam DIY kits again... ok.. not so fair to say that since I was building some during my school days...
too bad I have since dump away those... have decided to pick up again now. started with a BB SD Sangokuden kit and totally NOT satisfied with the stickers! damn lame lor. Trying to start on my 1/144 HG Nataku(got it at a steal, $12 from BHG) and really want to make it look better...
I have decided that I want to paint them. Not airbrush as it is way too expensive(ok, dun intend to spend THAT much yet) and totally not trained in it. Rather stick to the traditional handpaint method.
Questions~
1. it is possible to achieve good result with handpaint?
2. if so, what kind of paint is more suitable? I used to do some painting back then with TAMIYA paints... not very good with it also. lack practise...
i think spray can is easier to master than handbrush.
use handpaint for only those inexpensive sets lo, if expensive sets sure u dun wan to spoil it wif handpaint rite...airbrush is still da best
I'm using paint markers to paint some of my kits so cant really ans your qn......
Depend on the paint use. Matt color is easier to obtain constant effect with hand brush. If u go for glossy effect, handbrush is impossible to obtain consistent color and result.
Thin yr color too. Thick paint is difficult to work with handbrush!
That means use thin paint and slowly layer by layer to achieve good result..
thanks for all your response...
ya, my first attempt to paint was HORRIBLE! the plastic kit simply dun "eat" the paint!
a friend of mine who is also starting on the kit is using Gundam color markers. the color seems ok... but i can tell also she has problem covering the details.
bought tamiya acrylic paints, mostly FLAT colors. some ppl told me that is a big mistake since acrylic paint is not the prefered choice for most ppl here. even the uncle at Hobby Art told me that :(
bought Tamiya Primer to prime my kit first and things get soooo much easier! should have primed them earlier! ok, primer can get rather ex... almost $14 per pop! will try to post the end product here! hehee
ya.. airbrush is still VERY tempting... but the masking seems like a KILLER!
Oh, speaking of which, Uncle at Hobby Art recommend me to start with MG kits since they require lesser painting... well, i think i will play around with cheaper sets first.
so far, my kits r all rather cheap la..
1/144 Nataku @ $12 from BHG
