Gundam 00 Vol. 1 DVD details
Bandai Visual's site put up the details for Gundam 00 Vol. 1: it comes with 2 episodes of the series, a 24-page handbook, 8 pages of linear notes, and a preview trailer for the next volume. Price is 3,990 yen and, as mentioned the other day, release date is January 25.

Gundam 00 first episode ratings
Video Research Ltd. reports the premiere of Gundam 00 scored a respectable 5.4% rating, making it the 7th most watched anime of the past week in Japan. Since the heydays of Gundam SEED and Fullmetal Alchemist, ratings for shows in the famed Saturday 6pm MBS/TBS timeslot have steadily dropped off. By comparison, Gundam 00's debut beat out every episode of Ayakashi Ayashi and Toward The Terra and ties Blood+'s best showing (also its premiere episode).

"A small, all-purpose machine (autonomous AI) owned by Celestial Being. Stays in the cockpit with Lockon and helps with some of the controls for the Dynames. Additionally, it's extensively used for maintenance work and is indispensable to Celestial Being, who uses a small number of personnel for the sake of preserving the organization's secrets."

From Newtype: Hiroomi Iketani, one of the Gundam 00 producers, reveals some numbers associated with first episode of Gundam 00.
- About 2 years - The amount of time they spent planning the series. It started with temporary name "Next". Iketani met Seiji Mizushima for the first time at the end of 2005.
- About 30 people - Number of casts for the first episode.
- About 4hrs 30mins - The amount of time it took to record the audio. This is about average compared with other anime.
- Over 300 people - The staff members of Gundam 00. Compared with other shows, it probably has more main staff members (for an example, the mecha designers). Including the director, a lot of the staff is new to Gundam.
- Twice the amount compared to a typical show - The total amount of drawings needed to make the first episode.
- Over 400 pages - Reference drawings made for episode 1.

L'Arc tops music charts
Oricon has L'Arc-en-Ciel's "Daybreak's Bell" as #1 on the weekly singles charts with sales of 116,000 copies. It joins T.M. Revolution's "ignited" and Hitomi Takahashi's "Bokutachi No Yukue" as the only Gundam songs to reach #1.

Video Research Ltd. shows the 2nd episode of Gundam 00 garnered a 5.5% rating, holding its audience from the premiere and just edging out Blood+'s best showing in the timeslot. It was the 6th most watched anime of the week.

Mecha that takes its name from Astraea, a goddess of justice. In order of succession, it is an Exia proto-unit but at this point in time, it's a general purpose mecha and not a close combat-use unit. How this machine evolves is very interesting.
Armament: Shield, beam rifle, beam saber x 2
Characters: Meisters of second generation Gundams. Louid Resonance is in charge of piloting the Astraea. The other two test other Gundams. Additionally, it seems there's another Gundam Meister...
Marlene Bloody - A heinous criminal. Excellent as a pilot.
Shal Akstica - A 16-year-old girl chosen to be a Meister.
Louid Resonance - An engineer-type whose strength is in mechanics.

WEAPONS
The "seven swords" attached to each part of the Exia's body can be used to suit the mission.
GN Long Blade and GN Short Blade: The GN long blade is attached to the left hip, and the GN short blade to the right hip. Because their blades are enveloped in GN particles, they display phenomenal cutting abilities. Of the Exia's seven swords, these required the most development time.
GN Sword: The Exia's main weapon. Attached to the right arm. This is the largest of the seven swords, and its blade is longer than the Exia's arm. Although it has great destructive power, there are situations where it can't be used due to its size. Aside from functioning as a sword, it can also transform into rifle mode and be used as a gun. Its GN beam has high destructive power, and no army has a means of defense against it.
GN Beam Saber: Attached to both shoulders of the Exia. When it is drawn from the shoulder, a blade of GN particles appears. Rather than a physical sword, it is a pure beam blade. While the beam saber has high power, its power can be decreased by atmospheric conditions or methods of beam diffusion. Every nation is rushing to develop these as next-generation weapons for mobile suits, but only Celestial Being has succeeded in implementing them.
GN Beam Dagger: Attached to the Exia's waist. The basic system is the same as the GN beam saber, and it emits a beam blade rather than a physical sword. Its beam blade is adjusted to be shorter than that of the saber, making it harder to diffuse. Its pilot Setsuna has taken advantage of this to develop a tactic of throwing these weapons at distant enemies.
GN Vulcan: A small gun installed in both arms of the Exia. Although the GN sword's rifle mode has high power, it requires a transformation action and can't respond instantly. Thus these were installed in the arms as a backup. Their power is low and their original purpose was limited to diversion, but because their beams are capable of intermittent rapid fire, they can be a threat to conventional weapons that lack E Carbon armor.
GN Shield: A shield with high strength constructed of E Carbon. No current mobile suit weapon has offensive power exceeding the strength of this shield. Because the Exia was expected to fight mainly in close combat, this shield is fairly small. Also, so as to increase the freedom of the manipulator, it is designed so that it can be affixed directly to the arm.
