As expected, the drop of Junius Seven has reignited the Natural-Coordinator conflict and set off another war. ZAFT manages to win this first round thanks to the Neutron Stampeder. The Alliance certainly doesn't waste any time pulling out their nuclear weapons. Director Mitsuo Fukuda stated that he wanted DESTINY to incorporate events from the current global political situation, and there are some amazing parallels. The drop of Junius Seven corresponds perfectly with the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001. The resulting wave of anti-Coordinator hatred is similar to the anti-Arab sentiments seen after 9/11. The President of the Atlantic Federation (in Washington D.C.) quickly declares ZAFT a threat to mankind and rushes into war. The Alliance then uses a "Shock and Awe" attack on Aprilius One in an attempt to decapitate ZAFT's leadership. This is quite similar to the start of the Second Gulf War in early 2003. With the "War on Terror" still a very current event, we'll have to see if the conflict in DESTINY continues to parallel it.
