Decided to start a new thread on this to give everyone an opportunity in bringing out things that we may have forgotten, too shy to talk about, didn't have chance to talk, highlight etc during the debrief after the game.
I shall start off first with our match on 29 June 2003.
Felt that our 2nd half was abit messy with many instances when 2 of our players went for the same ball. Better communication need to be in place. Our opponents were finding it difficult to cope with our overwhelming midfield presence. However, we were not very organised ourselves. Can work out in time to come. May have to work on clearer specification of roles in new formation.
We were caught on occasions waiting for the ball to come to us. If the pass is inaccurate or slow, I would expect intiative to go to the ball rather than wait for the ball. I feel it's better that way.
That's all I have.
I beg to differ, on the whole, I felt we were very organised, especially in the second half.
As for the comment on two players going for the same ball, I guess we just have some players who are too eager to get to the ball everytime.
I also felt that you have only addressed half of the problem about ball waiting. Often, we will play to the pace and momentum of the game. If a pass is short, it may not be that we do not have the initiative to go for the ball but just a case of not expecting it. The quality of passes must be improved also. That is the real root of the problem and we should concentrate on solving that.
As for the new formation which we tried during the second half, I have two observations. Firstly, Ang was playing too deep. He should operate like an out and out striker and there is no need for him to come down to get the ball as that is Russell's job. Secondly, Russell too was not playing exactly to his role. He is too defensive minded. On hindsight, Boon may be a better option.
