Hi all I was just wondering, in today's age of IT and computer games what is the role of boardgames and cardgames in terms of entertainment today? In the past games like rubby(im not sure if this is how you spell it), carom(again unsure of spelling) and games like monopoly were great fun for children and family and was a great way of getting together with friends or family.
However in today's society people often coop themselves up in their own room furiously typing on their keyboard trying to fight monsters or jumping about in their living room playing Wii. It is not uncommon to see a typical Singaporean family with each member engaged in their own isolated activity.
Therefore my question here is what are your perspective on boardgames today? Is there a market for it? Would it be good family entertainment? And what makes you motivated to play boardgames as a motivation with family and friends as a good get-together past-time?
All opinions are welcomed!
Well, i work in a computer game company but we often play boardgames like catachan/railroad/axis & allies during lunchtime/after work.
It's alot of enjoyable than playing with someone over the net.
I agree there is much enjoyment in having a face to face games with your friends and family but are these factors strong enough pull-factors to get people away from the computer to the gameboard?
