everything oso point to some saint and mary
who is the one who defeated satan? mary. she crushed him with her feet. - by right its jesus
the speaker was talking abt his marraige with his wife, and he refered mary as the heavenly matchmaker..
and about fasting. the speaker was saying someone asked him if can take ribena or not, or milo or not (catholic fast = bread and water) the speaker said "u go ask saint joseph la, he behind the church there *refering to the statue*"
and also the speaker wife gave a lil talk also. and refered to st joseph, said that he everything oso pao ka liao ( everything oso can) he can answer any prayer request.
i mean. u catholics can claim whatever you want. i believe what i see. actions speaks louder than words.
in fact the only thing that refers to jesus is probably the lil baby jesus pic on the ropey thing.
oh ya, the priest blessing the ropey thing said that anyone who wears it is given unlimited grace, cuz mother mary said so to some monk, and is garrunteed can go heaven, and anyone can also wear it, doesn't hv to be christian..
so let me ask u, Jesus die for wat? for fun issit?

Yes, I agree that actions speak louder than words, but then again, the truthfulness of this cliched epithet extends only so far, in matters of intellectual inquiry. To defend and rationally prove the veracity of one's opinions via the argumentum ad hominem (to attack the characters and behavioral actions of the people instead of the beliefs) is a false mode of argument indeed. Why..?
Just because there are indeed aberrant actions on the part of people does not prove or disprove the truthfulness of a philospophical system or worldview. With all due respect, just because I have met numerous and many compassionate and nice people who are practising Buddhists does not prove or disprove the philosophical or theological endeavor of Buddhism at all. Just because I have seen and experienced good and nice Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses (etc etc), does not mean anything.
Emotionally, actions speak louder - yes. As an apologetic polemic, it does not.
Besides, the numerous Catholics I have met in Singapore are ill-informed, lack theological and biblical instruction, and many a time, even misunderstand the entire dogma of the Catholic Church all together.
Who crushed Satan..? Christ, of course. It was the Son of God, who was born of a woman (Blessed Mary), who "crushed" the serpent...figuratively pointing to the crucifixion of our Lord and Savior on the Cross. Death via crucifixion comes from strangulation and lack of air, as the weight of the body continue to be dragged down. Soon, the victim has to use his heels to push up, just to have more air - thus the usage (bruise his heels).
Jesus die for what? He did not die for fun.
He died on the cross for the redemption of mankind.

in other words.... u're angry. oh it could have so easily been the other way around, that whoever brings u salvation is the side u are on....Originally posted by dumbdumb!:becuz no matter how faithless i am. its becuz of the dissappointments, not the untruth that i know.
and becuz i really am pissed with catholics, their self righteousness in their works *books and church numbers*
and them not letting my grandmother receive Christ on the basis that she cannot memorise some stuff, and hving to drag around sending letters to the pope.
oh, and hving to make her attend classes of cathe watevr. instead of just telling her what Jesus did. and whether she wants to or not.![]()
and u give whoever u represent a good name?Originally posted by HENG@:in other words.... u're angry. oh it could have so easily been the other way around, that whoever brings u salvation is the side u are on....
you're basing your arguments on anger and disappointment... not on your beliefs...... how do u even expect anyone to take u seriously?
as for self righteousness..... don't even try to talk about the caths.... because protestents are no better/worse. This certain protestent church? come on u are generalising.... that some caths are self righteous = all caths are self righteous? then THAT particular protestant church is self righteous = all pros are self righteous. For that matter, some buddhists are self righteous = all buddhist are self righteous, some muslims are self righteous = all muslims are self righteous.... and yada yada.... u get the picture....
there are pros who have pissed others off with their self righteousness just as there are caths who have pissed u off in the same way... come on there are lots of ppl who piss others off in the same way... i can tell u YOUR religion is no less guilty compared with catholism, just as they are no less guilty compared to yours. so chill out and stop letting your past haunt you and fuel the whole argument. because all u are doing is bringing the hate into the discussion. if there should really be a debate on diff christian trachings,(and there shouldn't be. i can imagine how dissapointed God must be) and if theres anyone who should be arguing on Protestants' behalf, it ain't u buddy.... because u sure give them a bad name.
Actually, this is also one amongst the many misrepresentations which Protestant believers caricature of the Catholic faith.Originally posted by dumbdumb!:actually if u ask me, crucifix is more on the death, but the cross speaks of life.
There are some clarifications to be made. Besides, as I believe you are accessible to a catechism of the Catholic Church, it can be easily known that in matters of dogma and doctrine, the adoration of the Church is directed only to God alone, who is worthy of worship (hyperlatria). The veneration of Mary and the saints (hyperdulia) are interpreted in terms of honor and respect.Originally posted by gasband:She remained a virgin after the birth of Christ (Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 510).
She is "The mother of the members of Christ" (Catechism of the Catholic Church par. 963).
She was "Preserved free from all stain of original sin" (Catechism, par. 966).
She is "Queen over all things" (par. 966).
By MaryÂ’s prayers, she delivers souls from death (par. 966). Mary, "...by her manifold intercession continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation.... Therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix" (par. 969).
"The liturgical feasts dedicated to the Mother of God and Marian prayer, such as the rosary, are an ‘epitome of the whole Gospel,’" (par. 971).
Mary, "...when the course of her earthly life was completed, was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven..." (par. 974).
"...when she [Mary] is the subject of preaching and worship she prompts the faithful to come to her Son..." (Vatican Council II, p. 420).
"Mary has by grace been exalted above all angels and men to a place second only to her Son" (Vatican Council II, p. 421).
I really do not know much so I do not dare to challenge you so please do clarify with me and tell me I read the wrong thing.
I agree with you that many of the practises we see in the Holy Mother Church today has stumbled many, especially the Protestant brethren. However, seek to understand those practises and actions, the orthodoxy (right theology) behind the orthopraxy (right actions). By simply condemning Catholicism, without ever attempting to do a thorough investigation into the claims of the faith, is a very unfair treatment in scholarship.Originally posted by dumbdumb!:hope u're right abt that.. now i see with my eyes, since i am faithless now. and what i see ain't pretty and i don't need catholics telling me all over again on how they don't worship mary, but actions prove otherwise.
but thats what i mean. most catholics just assume things, without consulting the Word. coming up with all kinds of their own theology
thus u see all kinds of.. practices, for the lack of a not better word, but nicer word
