It provides links between Toh Guan and Jurong East, Clementi and Kent Ridge.
On the same day, Express Service 507 will be withdrawn.

Great! Need not take 188 anymore from some stretch of Toh Guan Rd. But I hope that it can call IMM instead actually -
Svc 507 can be chopped, MRT is faster and cheaper without the need to change trains.

Look, 183 does not really serve 507 withdrawn sector, isn't it? It was said that 507 had quite some loads right? What is the reason of withdrawn.
OFF TOPIC: BNL took 182 from JRE and now JRE taking 507 away from BNL. Doen't it looks like a cycle? -
That's why I'm puzzled as well... Although frequency is 25 mins, it is a cash cow to residents at Toh Guan Rd. SBS Transit introduces vehicle location system to more bus services
The Vehicle Location System (VLS) will be introduced on another five service routes - 3, 194, 282, 284 and 285 with effect from 23 August 2004. This follows the successful launch of the system early this month on five service routes - 40, 228, 265, 268, 506.
And given the positive reception to our goodwill ambassadors who have been stationed on the buses to help familiarize commuters with the system, SBS Transit will deploy another 37 goodwill ambassadors during the peak period on 23 August 2004 to the five new VLS service routes to assist commuters. -
Is SMRT doing any more VLS trials? Or do they have to sort out 189 first?

SMRT Buses Rolls Out More Buses with Vehicle Location System
From Sunday, 29 August 04, the Vehicle Location System (VLS) will be introduced on another two SMRT bus services 962 and 964. This is in addition to four other SMRT buses - 173, 180, 184 and 189 that were installed with this feature earlier this month.
Passengers' feedback on the VLS, a satellite-based bus tracking system that updates bus fare stages automatically, has been positive. With VLS, Service Captains no longer update the fare stages manually. Thus human error is eradicated and passengers are assured of accurate fare deduction.
In preparation for this weekend roll out of bus services 962 and 964, our Service Captains have gone through a refresher briefing on the operation of VLS. This is to ensure that they are prepared to respond to any system errors and assist passengers with the system. In the event of a system error, Service Captains will manually update the fare stages and passengers can tap their ez-link Cards as usual.
Posters will be put up at bus interchanges and decals will be displayed at exit doors of buses to inform commuters about the VLS. -
